Countryman S Grill

I have had my new CMS a week now and let me ask about the front grill area. Do you have problems with all the insects impaling themselves onto the radiator? I can not get my hand into the radiator compartment without using a BBQ Baster Brush or long toothbrush. Also, the insects ding up the radiator fins eveyplace they impact.

Has any thought been given about putting a mesh grill over the front of the intake?

Any help here would be most welcome...

I would be reluctant installing anything that would restrict air flow. Never had any problems with critters. I think you're safe on this subject.

What I have in mind should not restrict airflow... called RaceMesh. I think it would look good with the black mesh. Any opinions?

RaceMesh is great for stones and flying debris, however, IIRC it will do practically nothing for insects due to the openness of the pattern (3/8" weave????).

You could get some soft screen material and figure out a way to velcro it onto the grille...or you could just live with the buggers!

I would say anything is better than nothing. Plus that race mesh looks awesome, I say stick with the silver/chrome on that mini in the pic.

Side note: is this a kit? Or a custom job? If so how difficult?

bump!

my radiator/intercooler fins are also getting bent by bug impacts ... i shudder to think what a stone or other hard object would do

has anyone modded or found an aftermarket screened grill set for the countryman s?

i may have to take matters into my own hands as i want to mod the top grill to eliminate the chrome and paint the brake ducts white

i saw some black stainless steel mesh at the hardware store meant for screen windows that may do the job, just have to figure out how to attach it to the grills

looked at Racemesh, too large of a mesh, i want smaller

well i have seen bug guards on semi trucks and they are basically a metal screen much like you find on your patio screen door.

you may be able to fabricate something similar.

the screen will stop them or slice them to small bits to where they wont cause damage.

pluse removable and easy to clean and replace.... cheap to boot. it floats about an inch from the radiator, or can be put right behind the grill.

here is a link, same concept below
