I've always done a visor strip on all my cars but I'm going to forgo it on the Mini this time and opting instead for UV protection/heat rejection film on the entire windshield.

ETA: Oops, didn't see you wanted to hide a radar detector. Four inches from the top is about right and getting a limo tinted visor strip should do the trick.

Anyone know the ballpark pricing for installation of Pinnacle FormulaOne tinting? I am in Texas and looking for heat reduction.
Thanks

@coldnorth which city in TX are you located?

I just did my windshield with 70% blue ceramic tint. its very light, hardly noticeable. The only thing to worry now is i have to go to specific inspection place that will hook me up. But it helps cut down some heat, though not much since the tint is very light but I rather take that than none, houston is way too hot in the summer.

Friendswood. I am buying the Mini from Momentum. I got in on the $1000 promotion. They found a car that was already in production that met my needs. It is in transit now. The folks at Mini told me they use Xpert Tinting and Alarms on I-59S. My MA said I could go direct to them and get the Momentum price an save some money over letting Momentum manage the tinting. Apparently Xpert does the BMW's at Momentum as well. I will probably go with the ceramic tinting that still meets the Texas state law on transmission. I believe the limit is 25% (transmission). Who did you use?

Hey bignose! Can't wait to see your black All4 on the streets of SLC Who's your MA at Murray?

The turtlefactory Countryman here:
https://www.northamericanmotoring.co...06070-boo.html
has pics with a windshield strip. I didn't do windshield strip but I had my tint done from the same guy. I also opted for a full hood clear-bra material put on (can't stand the rock chips on I-80 going up Parleys ). HIGHLY recommend and great $ from this guy.

Cheers-

I just had my Countryman re-tinted at Xpert, they do a good job there... FYI If Momentum has it done for you they use the economy tint.. I had Xpert remove the tint they just put on via Momentum and replaced it with ceramic.. I did 25% on the two front windows and 15% on the rest.. I think the fronts were 25%, whatever the darkest was and still legal is what I have...

Thanks, I will do something similar when mine arrives. My MA did suggest I should go with the ceramic film.

Do you know anything about the "Phantom Footprint" theft deterrent system they are peddling for a $260 dealer option? I have not found much information and can't find a good reason to take this.
Thanks,
CN

Momentum didn't give me a choice on the Phantom Footprint, I bought mine off the lot so it had already been done... they used to etch the vin# onto the windows, the phantom footprint is the latest, I think it puts the vin on various body pieces.

Any pics of the tint sun strip on the windshield? I am thinking of getting it done also. The visors really are pathetic. Don't understand why they didn't make them a little bigger or make them with the slide out extensions.

Thanks, I am going to call my MA before the car arrives so they don't add it. I called my insurance and I don't get a break for this. I could see how this would benefit law enforcement but I can't see paying for this.

Can't do this in California. CHP is pretty stringent on tinting issues.

I did my entire car in Huper Optik ceramic (35%) except for windshield, and it ran me $400 (although he usually charges $450). I think Pinnacle should run a little cheaper than Huper.

Personal preference is I would never get the windshield done, I find almost any tint below 50% on the windshield bothers my visibility at night, and in the rain, anything above that would be fine, but I cant really see spending money on a tint that light, as the effects would be so small anyway. As for windshield strips I hate, hate, hate them. They look very tacky (reminds me of a 1980 Trans Am), and are extremely distracting (far worse than the whole windshield).

Now I use my V1 all the time, out and exposed, and I'm not sure the full reason on why you feel you need to hide it. I mean they are legal everywhere in NA (aside from VA, and Canada), and a cop can't just pull you over for no reason. I've always just folded down my visor so it's not in his face, any time I was stopped for anything else (it was never for speeding, because of the V1, lol). Never had an issue.

However if you really feel you must I would see if the tinter would do just a small maybe arched like patch just by the rear view mirror (like a bigger version of the auto wiper/auto head light area that would be just enough to cover it.
