Recess Under Front Seat

Does anyone know what the recess under the front drivers seat is for? there are a couple of velcro straps for holding something in place... I found it was a good spot for a flashlight.....

I believe that is where you store a slimekit/compressor if you change your run flats to conventional tires.

Very strange. I have no recess but HK speakers under the front seats. (Feb build All4D, UK spec.)

THe sub woofers are under the perforated metal screen to my knowledge. Slime kit sounds good. Now......where to get one that fits in the hole? Anybody?

I live in Michigan. I saw a tiny compact slime kit w/compressor Kit at Meijers that looks like it would fit perfect. I would have to measure to be sure, but it looks like it was made exactly for that recess.

I finally decided to read through the owners manual... it says the recess is for the MINI Mobility Kit....

I hear it's where Detroit owners keep their 9mm...

Cheers,

"9mm"? I don't think anyone in Detroit carries less than a .40 or 45 ACP.

While I generally prefer to carry .45 ACP (G36) unless attire precludes it, I think most of the residents of Detroit are proponents of the 'hold gun laterally gangsta-style, release hail of bullets without regard for direction of aim, in hopes of hitting something or someone relevant' method of target acquisition, and I tend to think of .45 owners as those who know and care where every round goes. At least I know I do.

Plus, you can fit more rounds of 9mm in the same size 'package'.

And then there's the distinct possibility that you may be overanalyzing my post, made entirely in jest (you'd need a GunVault, not velcro, to even think about using this space that way).

Cheers,
Tad

They need to learn that you can't miss fast enough to win a gunfight.

@ Sir Stirling, absolutely taken in jest. A 45 ACP man myself.

But if you were to buy into the Chrysler auto advertisements currently running on television in the US - all about the blue collar, rough-and-tumble, down-to-earth, brute strength attitude of Detroit; one might think a Mini as too "namby-pamby" for the Motor City.

Slime Tire Top Off

I experienced my first low tire pressure warning on the coldest day since I bought my CM. I am betting that the run flats get low more often as there is less space in the tire for air due to their design so I thought it best to have an onboard compressor. I found a Slime Tire Top Off for $10 at Autozone which fits perfectly in the recess.
I also picked up a Slime Smart Spair Tire Repair Kit for $20 for my other car.

I will probably be switching to regular tires after I burn through the run flats. When I do, I find it hard to justify spending the $135 for the MINI Mobility Kit. Can anyone comment on how its different? The space is so small that I find it hard to believe that the compressor offered in that kit to be significantly different than either of these. BTW, the $20 one does not fit in the space, only the very small $10 one does and there is still a space/elastic strap for a very small Slime bottle (to the left in the picture).

Can someone post a picture of each of the components?

Does all that fit in the recess under the front driver's seat? The recess area actually has two different shaped areas: a rectangular area with a velcro strap and a smaller cylinder shaped area with an elastic strap. I don't even think the smallest regular bottle of Slime will fit the cylindrical area. What size is the canister in the photo?

Slime says 16 ounces for an auto tire here.
I just don't see the inflator and the canister of MINI branded Slime fitting in that space. There has to be another use/reason for it.

Probably not. But then again, it's just a cubby.

There doesn't have to be a purpose - it's just there.

Conti Comfort Kit

On TireRack.com they offer the Conti Comfort Kit for $79. Same theory as the Slime and Mini mobility kit but packaged differently. The tire sealant is in a container that is connected to the compressor.
The compressor can work independently of the sealant. The sealant is activated into the compressor line when twisted into a vertical position.
Sorry but I do not know if it will fit in the space below the driver's seat. Also other car manufacturers make mobility kits i.e. Hyundai and I'm sure others.
