New name but that car has been mentioned here before and those are only the front page results. Countryman is indeed a new name for me though.

Countryman

That name was used in the 60's for the cute little wagon. Maybe BMW still owns the rights to the name. Sort of a shame it will be attached to a over stuffed MINI SUV. Should have called that thing the Maxi-MINI. Oh well...

Maxi has been reserved for the MINI plane, as it has wings.

Meh, as long as I have my S (or even a JCW!) I wouldn't mind having one of these, AS WELL...for the extra practical purposes of everyday life (you know, the not-always-fun-driving-stuff.) I can pack my MCS like nobody's business...but there are just some things that are a "few inches" out of reach, or impractical, or rediculously hard to do in the coupe.

I'm with you on the name, though...it's not my first thought, but I can understand it if they're keeping with the "remake" themes from the original MINIs. OOOOO...I wonder if this means they'll make a newer version of the Classic pickup truck??

Lots of little trucklets out there to choose from. Just what the world needs, one more clogging the roads. Oh well like it or not here comes another.

If I ever lose my mind & get one of them new Maxi-MINI's I'll park it at my Maxi pad.

It's not my cup of tea, but it looks reasonably sized compared to the tanks clogging U.S. roads. If it grabs some of that market and stops more folks from driving oversized vehicles, that's good.

I like a small CUV/SUV, MINI needs to find a new artist. Concept is good, execution really sucks. IMO.

Those headlights look really awful. In any case I think the real deal will sit a bit lower than those sketches.

I put in my 2 cents worth on my above post but I got a message I put too much in so I just left it with the link only. I'm sure this will be a great selling MINI. 4 real doors and available AWD. It will appeal to many segments.

Maybe so but most trucks are bigger than mine and don't get the attention mine does. I could go for a MINI pickup then I would have a small, medium, and a large.

Yes most are bigger. It is shame that there are no small pickups like the Japanese used to make, for me they were the perfect size. As you know they have all swollen into huge trucks.

Your Mini pickup is very cool, but was made in a different time for folks with different needs. I think if MINI made a small pickup now it would flop. A few folks would buy & love them, but that isn't enough to make it a viable vehicle type for production.

As much as I dislike the idea of a MINI SUV with so many other good small ones out there I'd guess they'll sell enough MINI cross-dressers to turn a profit.

A "Maxi-Mini" sounds like a menstrual pad to me

There were Maxi's back in the day. Four wheeled ones....

Not BMC or Leyands greatest moment.

My folks had family cars that were not so good either when I was growing up. Yep the Studebaker worked for us, but was not dad's finest car.

Kind of neat to look back at the old cars of our youth. Not Dad's car, but one like it.
