Hello from MC owner wannabe

Hi NAM,

I do not own a Mini Cooper now, but hope to buy a "pre-enjoyed" model in the next 12-18 months.

My last two vehicles ('97 Dodge Dakota, '02 Toyota Camry) have been brand new. Since I plan to buy a used MINI, I thought I would join NAM to bone-up on what to look for and what to watch out for when they have a few years/miles on them.

Happy motoring,

Jason V.

Welcome and good luck with your search. Once you fine tune what you want, can live with and live without then your real search will begin!

Welcome to NAM!

Looks like you already acquired the disease and are well on your way to the cure.

Funny thing is that once you cure that disease, there is a whole other disease that has no cure. The Modification Bug!

Happy hunting and good luck!

Welcome! If you're looking used, the next 12-18 months should be a perfect time, as the new cars will become available in all markets, many people will be trading in pre-07 cars, and prices will presumably drop a bit.

I don't know what your price range is, but if you're looking at 5-speed Coopers, I'd strongly recommend making sure you get one with the newer Getrag 5-speed transmission and not the older Midlands 5-speed, which has been problematic for many people. I believe the change was made early in the '04 model year, but I could be wrong.

For the record, I predict that your "12-18 months" will soon become more like 2 to 3 months. This place has that effect on people.

Welcome to NAM. Not only do you need to save your pennies for a Mini, you also have to put some away for the mods and detailing things. Good luck on your search, I'm sure you will enjoy the journey.
