Anyone replaced a MINI clutch before?

Hey my clutch has been acting strange lately, sometimes I can't put it into reverse, it also feels a bit rough shifting gears sometimes, like it doesn't want to go into gear. I'm thinking about replacing the clutch myself to avoid a $2500 bill. Any advice you might have will be very helpful...Thanks.

Last year or so there was a lengthy well detailed report by someone who did it themselves, with photos, etc. I think it was on RoadFly.

The Bently manual is pretty good, but they have you do more work than necessary. It is not necessary to take off the radiator surround assembly, but you have to have long bolts to screw in in place of the original bolts to allow it slide forward and out of the way.

Good luck.

I had an independent shop put in a clutch for me on my '02 MCS. The tab ran $800 parts and labor. My local dealership had quoted $2000.

So I would have to replace the original bolts temporarily to replace the clutch, then put the old bolts back in place? or keep those long bolts? Thanks a lot for the info. any and everything is going to help on this one.

Krookid, did you try searching over in the Drivetrain thread for advice on this? Also, I'm not sure if your clutch is the problem based on your description (could be a shifter or linkage problem).

I have yet to post this in the drivetrain thread. I will now though thanks..I'm trying to figure out the problem, I will definitely have diagnostics done on it before I do anything. It seems to be getting worse every time I drive it.
