New MINI Owner
New MINI Owner

Hello everyone. Just picked up a used 05 MINI Cooper S yesterday. I have mixed emotions because of what I traded in for the MCS.
I'm going back to school in the near future and need as much money as possible so I traded in my 05 WRX STI for the MCS.

mine was the platinum silver metallic in the middle.
Anywho, I knew that if any car could soften the blow of letting go of the STI it'd be the MINI. I've been a big fan for years now of both the classic MINI and the newer one (MINI2?). So hear I am. I've got plenty of questions that I hope to get help with...
(like what's up with the R/T and phone buttons on the multifunction steering wheel and why don't they work? and can my local MINI dealer give me any info on the service done to my car and the original options it was sold with?)
...and I'm sure I'll have plenty more questions as time goes on. Thanks in advance for anyone with answers. Hopefully I'll have some better pictures in the near future.
What will soften the blow of getting rid of your WRX is driving the MINI for a little while. After about a week, you will ask , "what WRX?"
As for the other questions, just do a search and you will be amazed at the information in this place.
WELCOME!

So I cut out from work early today to swing by the local dealership and get some history on my MCS, a list of all the stuff that came installed on it from the factory, maintenance history.
Before I leave I mention this sound that I thought might not be right (like a Viet Nam era helicopter, only not as loud) coming from the engine compartment. So a tech and service rep come out to the car to listen and I'm thinking they'll really have to concentrate to hear it. So I start the car up and immediately, in unison, they both start shaking their heads "That's not a normal noise."
So they get one of the more experienced techs out there and he tells me he hears more than one sound that ain't right. One of the motor mounts is gone, and he thinks a pressure plate or flywheel problem too.
I drive off in my loaner and 20min later the service rep calls and tells me they have to replace the WHOLE TRANSMISSION.
Thank God for the 50k mile warranty.
Has anyone else heard of transmission problems in the MCS? It's got 37k miles which is high for an 05, but not crazy. I wonder what the previous owner did to beat it up like that.

Wow! the whole transmission?! Good thing you had them check it out when you did. hopefully it won't be gone for too long and you'll be back to motoring soon!

I haven't heard bad things about the transmission. But if you head over to the Beneath the Bonnet forum, you'll find some threads that would be of special interest to you. It may also help you point the service techs to look towards certain things.
It's all part of the obsession.
