Newbie....got a question!

First and foremost, I am so pleased with my purchase. I've had my mini for couple of weeks and it's almost 1k miles. What's the first maintenance I should do? Should I bring it back to the dealership for an oil change? And how often do I change the oil? *sigh* Need some advice.

Thank you ALL!!!

It tells you when to change the oil, when you first turn the key it tells you how long til next oil change, Mini will do it under your maintiance plan if it is under 1000 miles to go I believe

Nice MINI. Cograt's and welcome to what is known as an obsession. Good luck with the new MINI and the previous post have given you the goods on the oil change.

The first recomended service is around 10K and is basically a oil change. As was previously mentioned, this can fluctuate, depending on your driving style, and the MINI will tell you when it's time. There are plenty of threads, already posted, debating the wisdom of waiting until 10K so there's no reason to revisit the issue here.

For the free oil changes, the only reason not to go to the dealer would be convenience (how far away is the dealer?) When the money is coming out of your pocket, it depends. Again, there are plenty of other posts on this. Suffice it to say, if a dealer wants more than $75 to change the oil, I would look elsewhere.

While it's not a option for everyone, you can do it yourself for around $40 in about 1/2 hour.

Hi, welcome. You can learn a lot about your car, how to care for it, and how to enjoy it here. This can be a very entertaining site. Cute name, BTW. What made you decide to get a MINI?

Thank you all for the replies. I finally sat down and read the manual instead of asking silly questions here...hehe. I know forums get addicting. I am now looking for new wheels for my car. I saw a thread somewhere with pictures of different wheels...sick cars!!!

Welcome to NAM! You will probably get the most practical oil change advice from your local MINI club. There may be someone in the club who could do the "in-between" oil changes for less than the $100 the dealer probably charges.
