Got It!!

New '06 MCS Dark Silver w/ black top and mirrors. Has sport and premium packages. It was somewhat of an impulse purchase while visiting Charleston, SC. Dana at Charleston Mini was great. I can't wait to rack up the miles.

Sounds sweet! Be careful with those impulse buys...there are lots of mods out there waiting for weak moments! Ditto on the request for pics.

They told me to keep it under 4500rpm and 95mph for the first 1200 miles. Is that all that's required?

Congrats and welcome to MINI-dom!

There are two camps out there in regards to breaking in your MINI.

The traditional, play by the rules camp suggests that you abide by whatever MINI tells you to do...which is stay under 4500rpm, alternate speeds, don't use cruise control, be gentle on the brakes, and don't go past 90mph for the first 1250 miles.

The other camp, from the experiences of many MINI drivers (especially tuners), will tell you to not worry and drive it like you stole it. The MINI engine is built to last. The only recommendation they add to driving it like you stole it - is to change out the oil after 2K in order to get the grit and loose residue that may come from a new engine.

I am getting my MINI soon...it will be our 3rd... I think, I will try my darndest to abide by the traditional recommendation...but it will be hard since MINIs are so much fun. Whatever you do...consider changing out your oil at least at 5K...that's if you plan on keeping your MINI for a long time.

Motor on!

Welcome

I didn't know about the early 5k or so oil change. I'll keep that in mind.

Something seems strangely familiar about your car.

dark silver rules

my wife an i held off for almost a year buying a mini just on the color choice, and we ended up with dark silver because it was the best. sounds like you knew it when you saw it. if only we had been that decisive! been motoring for 500 miles, can't wait for 1250...
happy motoring!

truth is, my wife and i drive like grannies most of the time anyway (no offense to grannies) so the breakin is a formality for us. would like to hear the supercharger whine just once tho!
