2500 miles road trip with my new Mini

After looking at few used Minis, I bought a new MCS today in Florida. I am going to pick it up on Sunday and drive it back home to Arizona.

Any advice? Anything I sould know?

Thanks.

I am guessing that you have seen and driven the car... If not, do not pay them a single penny until you have done so. Even though it is new, you should always do a full check of every vehicle to make sure it is in the condition you expect it to be in and has all options, accessories that you are paying for.

Otherwise, you should be fine with the mileage. I put 2,250 miles on mine in the first week, 1,500 of them on a road trip. I had no issues due to the car and was very impressed with the comfort of it. Plus, you'll be done with the break in period before you even get home, and that's a nice feeling.

Since you'll likely do a lot of highway miles, just be sure to occasionally adjust your RPM. Don't set the cruise at 70 and leave it there until your next stop. It's best to vary the RPM's during the break in. Hope that answers your questions. Congrats on the purchase!

Thank for the advice, Drew.

No I have not seen the car (just pics) nor driven it but I will remember to do so before I go in to sign the papers.

Thanks again,
Doron.

What a cool way to get to know your MINI! Ditto on HPUDrew's advice on varying the speed/RPMs during break in.

Let us know how the trip went once you get back. Try to count the number of waves and smiles you get!

According to like 100's of pages of breakin info, to vary your speed means to let the engine slow you down and let the rpms really swing like that for the first few hundred miles. Staying in gear, pushing the engine a bit, and then let the engine slow you down to a low rpm. Variable after that of course is a good idea as well as thats what mini suggests.

I would make sure you have some good tunes for the road and your IPOD if you have the adapter for that. Happy Motoring!

My 10 years old son is coming with me so he'll take care of the tunes department.

What range between fillups should I expect during the trip.

HPUdrew
You mensioned a full new car check up. Is there anything in particular I should look for? Is the quality between new vehicles changes a lot?

BTW Mine is white as well.

Made it home last nigt -- covered 2200 in 2 days -- what a ride. My son and I had a ball. I picked the car (MCS PW/B, #1 & #2) last Saturday, played around a little in southern FL and strtrd driving on Thur morning. Besides a cople of dings on the front bumper ( I am going to have to get over that soon -- the car is my daily driver), the car is doing fine , ready for the first oil change.
Any suggestions?

D.
