Sounds like some pretty insecure friends. A "girls" car around here, is an SUV.

It is a girls car - just not in the way your "friends" see it. Sitting at a red light, it will be the girl in the car next to you looking at you and your Mini, not the driver of the 80,000 Benz next to you !
Happens quite frequently

Oh really. Besides the handful of perennial SUV bashers, didn't we just go over that a few threads back?

For the originator ... try doing a search and you will find your answer. The short version is ...

YES. Its a chick car, a gay car, a cute car AND a clown car
LOTS of "girls" drive them ... and so?
My wife drives the JCW ... its a chick Car

Real men drive SUVs Big ones that get 7 MPG on Premium with BIG 35" tires and BIG air horns!

SO what?

Just Wait

Wait 'till they drive it. That'll close their mouths; or have them wide open in big smiles of glee. Of course, I'm assuming you'll let them drive after all their snide remarks!

I think it is very masculine, in fact, I could not even bring myself to give it a girl's name... my MCS is a guy. (Payton)

Anybody that really knows cars loves Coopers and respects their ability. Only fools with SUV's and Pick-up's would come with such ignorance.

You gotta be kidding. a MCS is a chick's car? Not by a long stretch. The design of the new MINIs are a perfect balance between style and performance. Now the cabriolets are a different story. I think the cabriolets (S & non-S) are definitely more feminine. But I would rather be driving a MINI cabriolet than a VW beetle though.

SUVs have their place.... I drive an Xterra with kayaks, mt bikes , road bikes, camping gear, fly fishing gear, etc to places I could never take my lowered Mini.....but when it comes time for grins per mile...it is the Mini.....besides everyone knows that those guys driving those Minis in rallys and, John Cooper himself was a wus.....

Hecks yeah it's a girl's car! I'm a girl and he's mine! That doesn't stop my husband from finding any excuse to drive him, though.

I think they will change their tune once you get it dialed in and give them a ride.

I had the same issue after I ordered mine. My gf always mentioned that her cousin(a girl) had a cooper, and that it was chicky... My friends told me its a car people with 'alternative' lifestyles would drive... Everyone said I was too tall (6'1") to own such a small car, and that having 2 kids I should look for something more practical (PS. My kids absolutely love driving in the MINI, AND have plenty of legroom)... After the car finally arrived, they all shut their mouths.

I dont care who thinks what about which... If you like it, you like it.. thats really all that matters.. Dont worry about how other people perceive you because of the car you drive, worry about not being true to yourself... (wow.. I just went on an old school "The More You Know" rant, sorry)

And you can just laugh once your MINI comes home while you zip around town wondering why you didn't get one sooner!

I was laughed at too. Ha. I don't care. It's the best damn driving car I have ever owned.
Let them take it for a test drive if they are man enough.
Then they will see.

It's a chick car - that fact has been well established on this board.

You should sell it and get a manly car like a Camaro or Firebird. I'm sure your friends will approve!

My MCS is a girls car. I bought it from Karin and she says it is only on loan to me and it is really still hers. It is a lot of fun for a boy to drive though. Oh yeah and my co-worker said she is selling her way extra large SUV and getting a Mini after seeing mine.

That's cool! That's what an SUV is for! I am sick of these women who think they need some giant vehicle. Have you seen the new H3 ad where on the playground a women lets her kid cut in front of another kid so the second mother runs out and gets an H3. What does that mean? You'll be tougher if you have a big vehicle? Stupid.

Personally I don't hate SUVs or trucks. I have an F-150, that I'm selling for the MINI btw, that I bought out of need. At the time I was hauling around very large canvases and was tired of borrowing others trucks so I bought my own. Now I don't need it so I'm downsizing. But if you camp, do sports or have many kids with lots of sporting equipment that you need to haul around they are a "need".

Sorry, I'm offtrack. I needed to vent. Heh.

I'm a girl and I've never looked at the MINI as a girl's car. My male friends all know the history of the MINI and think it's a cool car. To me the MINI is more classic than having some sort of gender association. I think it's a silly thing for your friends to say and they are probably jealous that you are getting one and they aren't!

Since you asked I think that a person who lets their "friends" think for them is a bit immature to be owning a car much less driving one. Sounds like your "friends" are a bit red in the neck area and shouldn't be taken to seriously.

Once you get your S you should seek a more intelligent and thoughtful group of friends. My guess would be that unless it's a pickup truck with a hemi used mostly for "cruisin for chicks" that it isn't a MANS vehicle.

It's a car for goodness sakes. If you like it what possible adult type person who's fully secure in who they are would possibly care what a bunch of shallow end of the gene pool genetic mishaps think?

Haha, I cringe to think of what I'd be driving if I only drove what other people wanted me to. It would probably look something like this:
