Hey guys, just checking in -

mini-mine, looks nice! Congrats everyone on the recent/soon-to-be pickups.

Stella and I are almost at 600 miles. I noticed today that someone hit her (AHH!) - luckily the paint isn't scratched and there were just greasy black marks on the side of the passenger door. After much serious scrubbing, I think I managed to get it all off.

So new MINI owners - beware crazy people!

Mine arrived at the dealer today. We set a 7pm pickup time for Monday! I can't believe that I'll be picking it up in less than 48 hours!

By the way, what did they tell you that you needed to bring with you when you go?

Well, today is the day! I actually already went down to the dealer and purchased the car (yay!) and got to see it in its unclean state (?) . I hit a few snags with insurance and in order for the dealer to release it to me, I had to go down and buy it before 5pm and have the insurance company fax over proof of insurance.

I had a few other issues too. First of all, they said the car would be ready by 7pm tonight, and hopefully it will be, but when I got there at 3, it was sitting out front with my name on it, dirty and dusty and the inside was still under plastic. When we began our discussion on how I was going to pay for it, the financial guy Matt told me that they just realized that they haven't even touched it since it arrived at the lot on Saturday, and I was originally told that it wouldn't be ready tonight after all.

Then about halfway through that discussion, someone came and told him it should be ready by 7. But they hadn't even installed the ipod adaptor yet, nor the bonnet stripes (and the "stripe guy" didn't come in today, so I can't have those today anyway).

Anyway to make a long story short, I paid for the car, I own it now.. hehe.. and I'm coming back at 7 when they "hope" the car will be ready to pick up. He threw in the bonnet stripes for free and said we'd do it later in the week.

Oh that's great Arthurbang! How exciting!

I'm going down tomorrow morning to pick mine up. I decided to fly because of the fire and this way I'll be in LA at 10am and will have my MINI before noon. I already did the paperwork over the phone, I went to the bank and got some dough and I even put it on my insurance already so I should be set! Yay! I'm excited.

I have my car! I'll have to try and take pictures of it tomorrow when it's actually light out. I really love everything about it, especially the iPod adaptor, so I was glad I got that. And being able to control the audio from the steering wheel is a plus.

Congrats Mini-Mine and Aurther!!! your cars look great! I hope everyone is enjoying their cars and to anyone who is still taking delivery i hope you get your car very soon!

Katherine, im sorry to hear about the bruise your MINI received. I am glad all is healed up and looking sharp again.

Oh, i got my headlight fixed, turns out that you cannot adjust Xenon headlights, and they replaced the whole thing. (took off the godzilla cup holder at the same time)

Now i have a new battle to wage. Me against some neon green bubble gum, that is stuck into my black carpet. I must have stepped in it while walking to my car in a Best-Buy parking lot and didnt notice. I will be going to war against it this weekend, and im gonna be packing ice cubes!!! You're going down Bubble Gum!!!!

On a lighter note, i will be attempting to install my m7 grills this weekend and i have a tint appointment Monday. 13% all the way around, and 50% full windsheild. I'll be updating pics when i get these done.

Motor ON!

I didn't think those particular wheels were still available on 2006 Minis.

Anyway, nice car. If my own experience is any guide, you won't regret having skipped the "S" version. The base Mini-Cooper is such a blast to drive that there is little need for the extra hourse power unless you have an ego problem that needs satisfying...,,

What did they do to get the cup holder off? Or did they just remove the holder and leave the bracket on the down-tube? I wish mine were gone altogether, -I already put the holder in the garage never to be seen again. But the bracket is still there on the down tube messing up what otherwise would be a symeterical look to the instrumentation. Or am I just being overly annal about the whole thing?

Being overly annal, but then again...we all are! (it comes with owning the mini i think ) The cup holder bracket has 2 torx head screws holding it on and some sticky glue molding stuff. I had the dealer take it off while they were fixing my headlight, because i was affraid i was gonig to break/chip/pull off the paint on the down tube while trying to pry the bracket off. The torx head screws are on the side of the down tube. I believe Tobasko took his off himself, he might have more information for you then i do.

The only thing I need to get fixed on mine is the plastic (?) that surrounds the door handle on the passenger side. From the very first night, when the passenger gets out, that whole circular piece tries to pop off with it. I was able to push it back in that night, and it seemed to stay, but then last night it was doing the same thing. So when I get my racing stripes, I'll be having them fix that too.

The cupholder (bracket and all) is held on by two #20 Torx screws, and some SUPER sticky double-sided tape. It took about three minutes to get all the sticky stuff off after removing the bracket.

Some others "saw" the tape off with floss. I just applied a steady pull on it till it let go. It'd probably help to warm the thing up in the sun or with a hair dryer first.

The dealer would probably do it for free the next time you go in?

Arthurbang, nice MINI!

I pick mine up yesterday! YAY!!

Delivery was smooth and easy. I decided to fly down (don't know if I mentioned that before) because of the fire. My MA (Chris Yuseco @ South Bay MINI- highly recommended!) who was awesome through this whole experience picked me up from the airport in a PW MCS convertible, very cool! It was really cute, when I arrived my MINI was there, covered with a big bow! I wish I had my camera with me.

I had a nice drive up the coast and I'll take some pics tomorrow after he gets a good bath, he's covered in bugs! Yuk!

Well, I must say I'm having a blast in my new car! It's so much fun to drive around. I'm going to have to wash it this weekend since it's REALLY dirty right now, lol... It's covered in pollen and dirt from all the afternoon thunderstorms we keep having. So far, I have already gotten two waves, and it has 310 miles on it. I'm down to just below a quarter tank, but i figured the mpg would be low the first go around - esp. since I've been mostly city driving. Hoping I can get to 400 without a refill, but will have to see.

I have a question though about the fuel gauge. Does it beep or light up when you are low on gas?! I was just trying to figure that out. My last car lit up when it was low.

Ok, well hope you are all enjoying as much as I am!

Gas Gauge

Mini Mine,

I believe that it will light up unless you have it programmed at the dealership to give an audible alert. I too am enjoying the new ride, this weekend I installed the oem armrest and oem alarm. Next I will do the aux input and Ian auto window up. Last weekend I added a nice set of Eyes and a Kudo Cell phone bracket. When I get some nice weather I will post pictures.

Stan

Yeah, the "low fuel chime" is one of those things that has to be programmed. When I called to check on the status of my car a couple of weeks ago, they went through the list of options and I told them that I wanted to have it turned on.

My car has about 210 miles on it so far, since Monday night. And according to the onboard computer, it says that I should expect to get another 200 or so before I run out of gas, but I guess we'll see. The fuel indicator is just a little bit above the halfway mark.

Well, this morning I'm off to get my racing stripes put on, and get my passenger door handle looked at. I'll try to take more pics later!

Ouch... I filled up for the first time today, and I only got 26.5 mpg!!!
I got 338 miles and refilled 12.734 gallons.

Is this normal!? I had a mix of highway and city driving. I hope it improves since this seems awfully low for the MC.

I've noticed a few other things too... I have Auto AC, but I don't seem to have the little sensor button thing on the dash. It's just a little black plastic ball... Did I get screwed or something?!

To top it off, I think my alignment is off or something, because my steering wheel is turned slightly to the left when I am driving straight! This isn't normal right?! It doesn't appear to drift or anything, but when I am driving straight I have to hold the steering wheel slightly to the left. If I turn it to where I consider the steering wheel is level, the car turns to the right.

*sigh* oh well, I guess the bad stuff starts rolling in now, lol... I called my dealer and left a message, so we'll see what he says!

We are not through our first tank but I don't expect better than around 23 combined until the engine is broken in.

Cool MiniChik..

As for gas mileage, I just filled mine today for the first time. I got 350 miles, and filled a little over 12 gallons (so I could have waited a little longer.. the onboard computer said I could have driven it 50 more miles, but I didn't want to risk it). The MPG came out to a little under 30, so it wasn't too bad.

Then I drove the freeway to and from work today and even after driving 30 miles, the computer says that I should be able to drive another 400 on this tank. It would be really cool if that were true, but it seems to go down as the tank becomes empty.
