Custom Paint from Factory?
Custom Paint from Factory?
I wanted to know if any of you have gotten any custom paint from the factory. I did not know if they would let me pay more to get a custom paint on a mini or not. My wife is looking at getting one and she would really like a diffrent color then they offer on the MCS. I think it would look good in the BMW Blue that I have seen some M3's in but I did not know if you could get them to paint your mini when they make your car.
BMW's offer several shades of blue. Are you referring to?
Basically what you see on miniusa is what you get. The color can be changed at your local body shop to any color under the sun, with pearl, metallic, pretty much anything your heart desires for a price.

I have never heard of anyone getting custom paint from the factory.
I was told by the folks at 800-ASK-MINI that they cluster the same color of car together so that they can minimize downtime when changing colors. I'd also expect that the paint sprayers are carefully adjusted to the MINI paints and thicknesses, so changing to a new brand, thickness, quality, etc. of paint would be very, very difficult. From a process automation standpoint, it would make their lives hell and would compromise quality on the rest of the cars in the line. In short, I couldn't imagine it ever happening.
As said above, a local bodyshop can do the work, but expect the price to be fairly high for a good job that looks factory.
