Hello and opinions wanted!

Hi! I am about to order my first MCS, and am extremely disappointed that Purple Haze was discontinued... hence my dilemma! There was really no other color that I was very interested in, but I have searched the entire country and there are no PH cars with the equipment I want.

SO, I am looking at ordering one of the following - let me know which one you think sounds best!

1. Astro Black w/Chrome in & out, White roof, and custom wheels, stripes.
2. Hyper Blue w/Union Jack mirrors, White roof, and custom wheels, stripes.
3. Chili Red w/Checkerboard graphics, ?

????? What do you think?

(Obviously I am looking at all the colors surrounding PH in the color spectrum!)

My suggestion: Chili red....its free! Then use the $400 that you would have spent on the paint and use it for upgrades like a pulley!! Or LSD or Heated seats....Or if you want you can mail me the difference : )

CR drivers are clearly the pushiest, so you don't want that... and My car is Indi Blue, so I have a bit of a chip on my shoulder regarding Hyper Blue... so I can only, in good conscience, recommend the black...

So, do you live in Freddyburg, or are you a Mary Wash student?

Ha ha... it looks like the CROC scores one for quickest responses ever! I do like the red, only started looking at other colors because they seemed to be 'everywhere'. I'll have to fool around in Build Your Own with CR some more...

I live here, transplanted from Buffalo, NY about 5 years ago. Better driving weather! Love the Indi Blue too ~ the PH reminded me of Indigo more than purple.

I absolutely love Hyper Blue! Really is a gorgeous color! On the road it really stands out...especially with a white roof.

Red...meeeeh

I think that the Astro Black/White combination is great but, it has a little too much contrast and you get white wheels which are imposible to keep clean. I like the Astro Black/Silver better. But Astro Black monotone is the best

Astro Black Fo-Shizzle. There is no other color like it on the market. Plus you almost get a purplish tinge in the sunlight. That my friend, is as close as youll get.

If you want something close to PH try Space Blue with a silver roof. Space blue on the MINI website is NOTHING like the actual color, it is a deep silvery metallic blue and with a silver roof looks very classy. It is a much deeper and darker blue than hyper or indi blue. In bright sunlight it has some purple to it. Check my gallery for pics at high noon right after I had a clear bra installed.

Space blue is nothing like PH; it's more of a teal color (definite greenish tinge to it).

In fact, there's nothing left on the MINI color palette like PH or Indy Blue. Astro black is OK if you're into constant detailing and washing. When we purchased our first MCS it was a toss-up between Purple Haze and Hyper Blue; my wife won and we ended up with PH. Both HB and CR (both with black roofs) look very sharp.

Boy! We can feel your pain. We ordered a Purple Haze Convertible on 12/31/05 with an estimate delivery of October 2006. On 1/2/06 we were told the Purple Haze was going out of production & to pick another color. We went with Chili Red with the red interior. In March we got a call that they had a spot on the production line & Purple Haze was available. We've had the Purple People Eater for 3 weeks and love her. The good news - when you are in the car, it's hard to tell the color. Order the red & pretend you have the purple! Of course, when you are out of the car - red is always a great choice. You'll enjoy it no matter what color!

I agree with sddave

Julie, Take a good long look at a Space Blue Mini. I agree with sddave about the color. You have to see the car. Walk around the car. Look at the car from different angles and distances. I would tend to call it a handsome color. I would call it a dark, dusky shade of blue. It does tend to change color with changes in light. If I park my car next to a red or maroon color car, my car does tend to look purple(from the reflection on the other car on my paint). The same goes for orange/red sunlight and sunsets. IMHO, Space Blue may not be as sexy or intense as some of the other Mini colors, but it is rather subtle and pleasing to the eye. The silver roof and wheels do work well with this color. I am also finding that Space Blue looks really good with carbon fiber trim pieces!!! I think you are going to find out that Space Blue might become the next Black??? -Bob

Astro Black with either Astro or Silver top. Very stunning.
(I'm with you on the PH, loved it, and so did my husband being a Furman grad-Furman Purple Palladins go figure)
Anyway, AB is beautimous for sure and is a little less seen out here.

Oh and the Space Blue IS fabulous in person. I didn't order it because there were no "live" cars to see in that color yet. I've now seen quite a few and love it, especially with the silver top. The other thing I like about it is that red really looks great on it as an accent, just pops and makes you take notice!

Thanks...

Hey everyone, thanks for your input - except I think I am more undecided now. The more I look on this site at the gallery pics, the more appreciation I have for different 'looks' on the Mini. The plan will have to be to get to the dealer and look in person at some different colors and interiors, and choose then!

Will be going to Checkered Flag MINI in VA Beach, even though they are a bit further away than Crown or Sterling - I like the customer service from CF better than the other two, a little more enthusiasm it seems! Will post more upon my final order!

Chili Red = Free.

All others (except PW) = Metallic Paint Surcharge.

No brainer to me.... Jimbo

Oh and IMO of course the CR with Checkerboard is way over the top. I like simplicity (CR/B). Plus CR looks great dirty....

Hyper Blue / White :-)

No contest. MINIs only come in CR/W, all the rest are mistakes
Ouch that really hurts. Since I didn't know Hyper Blue/White was a mistake I went with it. Nicest mistake I've ever made.

Chili Red has one thing going for it....FREE.

JulieAnn I'd suggest HB/W. Very nice color if you ask me. Just don't ask Chow.

Forgot to say welcome to NAM. No matter what color you get they are great cars.

Thanks for the welcome! I have been stalking around NAM for quite some time, and can't seem to stop thinking "MINI" knowing that I am about to order next week! Even worse, I am now infatuated with BRG and PW! It just gets worse the more I think about it.... (but in a good way?)
