Yes we in Seattle (and Portland) are the red-headed step children of MINI distribution. Neither dealerships keep inventory, either they don't order enough or don't want to order pre-configured MINIs. Unlike the east where the lots are full of MINIs... and the MCSs here have a 8-12 month wait.

Go with what you want, even $1000 in options doesn't make much of a difference on payments.

Is that the one that comes with the checkmate package?

For a while I was toying with mixing park lane elements with checkmate sports package...

Way back when (october i think) i was looking at minis i found a local company that would import them for you. They charged exactly MSRP, but there was a $1000 shipping charge. So, in effect, $500 more than Northwest Mini. The downside was that you didn't "buy it from the dealer" - so northwest mini dealer might be a little less helpful in service issues.

I can't remember who it was.. i'll have to check

It's not much better in the Bay Area. Why put up with it? Mini of the Hamptons can order your car immediately and get it to you in 6-8 weeks, for $500 over MSRP (to help cover shipping -- it actually costs them more).

I agree, there was a time my order was CR with the tartan but when I saw the different reds together I was not as keen on it. Tartan looks great inside other colors, if I had liked the feel of it more I might have gotten it - its still my 2nd choice.

Re: leatherette its a real personal choice. I've had it in a bunch of BMW loaners and we haven't liked it at all.

my thoughts:

Color: Everyone says RG is brown - but have you really spent any considerable amount of time with one? It has a warm tone to it, i don't know why that equals brown to so many people...oh well.

To my eye (graphic designer of over 10 years, if it matters to you... the best way to describe RG is if DS & BRG had a baby MINI. It's a bit darker than DS, and it is different. I will be honest, if resale is your primary objective, i doubt i would go with RG. Everyone loves DS, that is why everyone has one. (no disrespect!)

Color is so hard, i was between PS & DS for the longest time, then BRG, then not. Then i saw the RG in person - sold.

AS for the Tartan - check out my gallery. We got it in my wife's CR/B first - an i loved it so much i got it in mine.

Keep the LSD. I would dump the sport package to go with the 16" rims myself.

I only ask about the resale value issue because I already have my eyes looking towards an '08/'09 model (decided to skip '07 and get my '06 now.. also probably can afford a JCW by then) and wanted to consider resale value 2-3 years down the road.

Yes, the $200 here and there is not bad stretched over a monthly payment, it's just amazing to see the price as a whole grow $2000. The thing that really pisses me off is that you can't get the silver racing stripes as part of the sports package!

OH! And I almost forgot! Apparently mini has run out of space grey cloth seats..??? Are the leatherette seats really bad or am I gonna be ok optin out of leather? (yes, i'll have to check myself, just asking for any opinions out there)

Thanks!
You know you really might want to consider a lease over purchasing the vehicle if you are going in with that mindset. You will likely save yourself some money on the monthly payments as well. Just something to consider if you dont really plan on keeping the car for more than a few years.

Nice! That's what I'm talkin' about! If I didn't like PW so much, I'd be seriously considering RG with Tartan.

If I were to buy an '09, what would be the advantage of leasing the '06?

My next MINI will be another PW with a red seat (what ever flavor they're doing then).

Good luck o-ron! You'll be happy, I'm sure, with what ever you get!!!

Ditto! Back and forth... PS/DS/RG/BRG.... RG/S just seems the most... elegant and unique.

*definitely* keeping the LSD. I'm dumping the sport package but getting the R99 wheels (i know, more cost.. ). I figure that way I'll have a set of 16" with all-season tires for winter time and summer perfomance tires on my 17's.

The question is if I still need DSC... (or xenons, fog lamps, etc)

Test drive two MINIs, one with xenon, the other with out. I did and immediately saw a difference. My MA told me that if I was only going to do city driving, then I probably would not need xenon.

Fog lamps - questionable. They seem to fill out the lower bit that the xenons don't get. I've got Ians autoup circuit, so I've programmed the fogs to come on with the headlamps. A lot of people say that fogs are necessary because it fills out the toggle bank

And DSC - if you plan on a lot of track time, maybe not. Or if you don't get a lot of snow, maybe not. But for everything else, I like the safety blanket it provides. I've read here or on MINI2 that's its saved drivers from loosing full control.

I thought you needed the rear fog light to do that?

That is correct. The rear fog fills in what used to be the one missing toggle function. The front fogs also have a toggle, but to complete the set, you need to order the rear fog.

I have DSC, LSD, Xenons....The LSD is nice & so is the DSC for my wife driving...I mailny do city driving....get on interstate for a few miles from exit to exit. Now when I drive my Tahoe I keep wondering if my headlights are on cause I have become used to the Xenons in the MINI & it is one of my personal favorite features, except for the heated seats....those are way cool.

...my 2 cents

Any MINI is a good MINI!!!
