At long last-my MINI
At long last-my MINI
Well, I finally have it. Now, I typed up some observations in Word and was just going to copy and paste into the thread but I discovered that it doesn't seem to allow that. As I am a lousy typist I'm not going to redo it here. Instead I'll attach the word document and one can open that up to see what I have to say. Sorry for the glitch!

What a combo!
I have been waiting to see a combination where Anthracite didn't make the car look too dark--now I've found it!
Antracite and Cordoba looks STUNNING together! Especially nice with metallic British Racing Green (or MINI's variation on BRG)...
Anthracite has a metallic paint look, and matches so well with your color scheme!
I like the black stripes, too. Driving lights look nice up front...

Welcome to NAM. With your NAM name I thought your car was going to be gold, but even though it is BRG the interior looks as bright and golden as any MINI. I love the chrome trim with the double cluster gauges on the steering wheel (I talked myself out of that chrono pak and regret that it also deleted the double cluster). I aree that the interior is cleverly styled and, as a designer would appreciate, the components are shaped with a plasticity that showcases the material instead of disguising it to mimic another finish (which may be why other car interiors are not criticized for having as much plastic). It's definitely a stylish car. Last weekend a famous local art dealer/collector gave a party in his (published, of course) wine country home and there were 4 MINIs parked on the long driveway not including mine. Thanks for the expandable essay.
Just butting back in here to say that your car is actually the first one I've seen where I actually like the chrono cluster option! I've always regarded it as a detraction from the cockpit design (I really like the big speedo), but for some reason it looks really great in your car.

Thanks for the very positive feedback, everyone. I do have the beige mats and they look great. Evryone in my community who has seen or ridden in this car are just Ga Ga over it. Of course, in this community of 110,000 there are a few MINI's but I've only seen one other Cabrio around here.
Thought I'd also mention that the sport link bike rack is a masterful piece of engineering. I'm really happy that I opted for this. Yes, it was expensive but in the long run I won't notice the difference. Im attaching a few more pics.

I am also passing on the Icelink for now and will be simply using the Aux-in which I will install myself in the next few days along with a parcel shelf and second 12V source.
A few observations after several days of driving
1. This car wants to go FAST! Keeping it under 4500rpm is really tough. I find I am watching the tach quite a bit. Just 700 miles more to go.
2. I find that the ride with the runflats is not at all as overly harsh as some people have suggested. If one is used to the ride of a non-performance car then yes, the ride is hard. My last car was a 2000 Celica which was a decent handling car with minimal power. I really don’t notice that much difference in the feel of the road between the two cars. Actually, I was even expecting a harsher feel. I am pleasantly surprised at the overall ride quality while not sacrificing handling- and make no mistake-this car does handle!
3. I live in central Illinois and had a two hour drive home from the dealership in Naperville. That evening, my face felt quite hot and when I looked in the mirror I realized that I had gotten sunburned! Duh! There’s a moral there somewhere.
4. I have read numerous complaints on various forums about the MINI’s interior relying so much on plastic. Well, I’ve sat in a lot of newer cars and plastic of some kind or another seems to be very prevalent in all new cars be they American, Japanese, German, or English. I think that it is very tastefully used in the MINI. I’m a designer and most of my friends are artists or designers and all of them who have sat in the car are just effusive in their positive comments regarding the interior and the car as a whole. And I would heartily concur.
5. The HK Premium Stereo sounds excellent. Plenty of volume at 70mph with the top down. I just wish that the HU was set up to scroll ID Tags. In this day and age a premium unit should be able to scroll CD and MP3 track and folder info.
6. So far its tight as a drum. No rattles, no glitches.
7. The airbag warning labels on both visors are easily removed with denatured alcohol. This has been covered on the forums. I took the visors off so as not to get any alcohol on the interior surfaces. Very easy job.
7. This car is just pure unadulterated fun to drive. Yippee!!

Very classy color scheme. The anthracite looks really nice with the tan interior, which I wouldn't have expected.
And congratulations.
