I guess it's my turn...
Someone please tell my why I just traded my '02 Eldorado ETC, w/300hp Northstar and every luxury amenity known to man for an '03 BRG/Checkerboard MC. I KNOW why I did it. I just need someone else to tell me I'm not a whacked-out nut job. Unless, I am...of course...
Thanks,
Craig

Because cars aren't meant to be luxurious, they are meant to make you smile, get you from point A to B so that you enjoy the process. There is no other car on the road better than the cooper for those goals.
Now, if you abhor excitement, and prefer a lazy boy for a seat and 4000lb tank insulating you from the experiance then you are crazy. Crazy for not just digging a grave and waiting to fall in.

Man, you guys are good!
I'm over 50 and I think I'm "supposed" to be driving a Cady. That's why I don't want to anymore! I suddenly find my 40 minute drive to work, too short, and I'm whistling as I get dressed for work in the morning. I haven't had so much fun behind the wheel of a car since my '59 Bugeye'd Sprite in High School!
Because you are SMART and you'll never regret your choice...Happy Motoring and welcome aboard...

You are indeed a whacked out nutjob - as we all are - and you finally came to the realization that white trim belongs on the roof and mirrors, not your belt and shoes!!
Congrats on making the switch.
Bill
PS - I'm sure the monthly petrol bills are a lot more tolerable, too!

This sounds like it's going to be a lot of fun.
mdsbrain, I must be pretty close to your neck of the woods...Edgwater MD, just across the South River from Annapolis.
I've been eyeballing the MINIs since they made their debut in the States. I've had a good bit of experience with the old British Leyland and Austin Healy stuff back in the "old days". Back when you had to work on the car for six days out of the week, but it was all worth it when it finally ran on the 7th.
My wife and I occasionally cruised Tate Mini's parking lot on Sundays when there was no sales pressure. I actually had mine picked out three weeks before I stopped in and drove it, and was really surprised that it stayed there that long. If there is something wrong with it, I'll be danged if I can figure what it would be. Seems perfect to me. It only had 10K miles and the price was good (in my opinion). I test drove a comparably equiped '05 and an '05 convertible as well. The only difference I could detect between the '05 coupe and my '03 was that extra tightness you get with a new steering setup. I'm still torn on the convertible though. The ragtops from the old days kind of left a bitter taste in my mouth. That and the limited rear visability helped talk myself out of one, although my next one WILL be a hot orange convertible w/black stripes.
Mine is pretty plain-Jane, except for the appearnce stuff. Besides what you can see in the picture, I've got the panther black leather seats and manual transmission (half the fun!). The rest is all standard. The car payments are half what they were and the gas milage is fabulous. I do almost all city driving and the milage is consitantly 30 mpg. This thing has satisfied all of my requirements for a commuter vehicle, and add the fact that it is incredibly fun to drive...I'm exstatic!
Hope to see you all on the road or at some other Mini Playground.
