What gen Vette was it?

 

What kind of vette? I love the mini but I just couldn't give my Z06 away. Two totally different beasts, I'd say. Congrats on the MCSa, tho...

sold my 64 vette roadster for an 05 mcsc
hard to believe, but heck of a lot funner and can fit the kids
as my son says, i made a "profit" on the mini

I've never driven or rode in a Vette...can someone explain to me what's so bad about a vette that would make you trade it for an MCS? I'm just wondering! I love my MCSC but I can't believe the MCS is more fun to drive than a vette?

 

They are very different cars. The C5 vette is brutally fast (particularly a Z06). They come with 405 horsepower from the factory, run 0-60 in less than 4 seconds(with the right driver) and it's not that hard to to find a few more horses with simple bolt ons. A novice could run high 12's in 1/4 mile in a Z06. They handle very well in the canyons but can get away from an inexperienced driver due to the over abundance of power. The MCS on the other hand is quick but not a powerhouse. You can turn the wheel and "stand on it" in the twisties. Each has it's benefits so in my opinion neither car is a let down when it comes to spirited driving. Older vettes were fast but not nearly as agile so I could see why you would have more fun in the mini. It really depends on what you are looking for... and for me, it's both.

The MCSa (a? after having had a vette? even more interesting!) has much greater range--functionally, socially, culturally, if not physical distance--than the vette. A practical decision with a fun result.

wow! i have a vette, and i wouldnt give it up. Not because i dont like the mini. I love the mini. Its just different types of driving. The mini is for sporty fun and the vette is for the classic american power. Kudos to you for dedication and welcome to NAM!

 

What's the "a" mean? I've seen the 2005's referenced this way. TIA

and i can understand trading a c4 Corvette in for a MCS (and there are a few other years...) but wow... what a change...
(this coming from a diehard Corvette fan and a converted MINIac...)

 

Not that this makes much difference but I believe the earlier Z06s were rated at 385hp. Still one fast ride.:smile:

 

I can see one very good reason for trading a 64 vette for a MINI - modern freeways! Those cars had great power, but the trans was not built for cruising at 80.

I hope your vette found a good home! That was a great year, and IMHO one of the best looking cars ever.

Side note - very soon I'll be going in the opposite direction - 2003 MCS --> 2002 Z06. I hope the never-bite-back handling of the MINI didn't spoil me too much!

Meanboy - He's referring to 02+,which did have the full 405. The 385 hp engine was only produced 1 year, 2001.

 

Yup, that's the early version of the Z06 alright!:smile:

 

The z06 is one of the most beautiful vettes ever made, next to the 90's editions and the 58'

 

The race version of the C5..the C5-R is wicked looking. The C6R is pretty hot too. And they sound great too.

A lot of people I know, and don't know don't like Corvettes. Maybe they think they are unsophisticated or something. I like them. I have never owned one but I see raw american V8 power that I grew up with and always take notice of them. Very different cars both very cool in my book

 

After owning my '01 Vette(modded) for 3 years (preceeded by a '98 Z28 Camaro/modded, and prior to that a '91 5.0 Mustang/modded) I bought my '05 MCS (BUD). I don't regret my decision. I sometimes miss the wrinkles in my face when accelerating--but I am kept busy shifting BUD. At 45 mph it feels and sounds like I am going 2x as fast. My neighbors don't miss the sound of my former V8's with straight pipes. I think my hearing has improved with the MCS--even with my Magna Flow/BMP CAI. Just a fun car. Nick

 

I had a 99 c5 vette auto with an 02 06 exhaust. It was fun, and it did accelerate well, but I always had to worry about grounding out on a driveway, or pot holes, or this or that-it was definately a rush-but the mini is just more fun-especially playing with the paddle shifters. It is suprising that once the mini is going, it moves in traffic as well as or better than the vette did. Plus with the vette, I was pretty much done with mods unless I wanted to go to the supercharger or bigger motor/cam. I'm waiting for the approval of the JC works stuff for the new auto, and then it will be mod time again. Going to try to get the mini into the "little sleeper" mode to suprise some bigger "fish". My first car was a 63 A-H sprite with a huffacher head and numerous other mods-what a kick to drive, and I haven't had as much fun driving until I got the mini. One of the reasons I switched was I need a daily driver, and the vette in the rain was simply NOT fun.
