New NAM-er here
Hi all,
So here is my story. I was happily noodling along in my '97 Civic EX with 145K on it, until my teen-age daughter got her license and decided it was her car (it is now named Cindy the Civic, BTW). I'd been eyeing the Mini for some time, and after closing my ears to all the purported reliability problems, I ordered an '05 MCS in Oct. and it arrived late Dec '04. It is CR/B, with few options: MFSW, anthracite headliner, and the red cloth/leather seats.
After ordering the car, I began perusing the MiniUSA site, and starting getting sucked into the Mini subculture. Once I got the car, oh my, I'm stricken with Mini obsession! I love this thing way more than I should! I've lurked around NAM for a few months now, and wish to thank everyone for their inadvertantly helpful posts. As a result, I've got a date at Helix to install the R-Speed 22mm rear sway bar and 15% pulley. And to think, I've never modded a car beyond adding aftermarket wheels!
After 3000 mi, I can say the Mini has had no problems at all, just solid and a total blast to drive.

Hi everyone! I'm new here and pretty much last October I couldn't hold back anymore and bought a 2007 Laser Metallic Blue Mini Cooper S. Nothing's been the same since! I've never driven so fast and been so constantly on the lookout for the pigs. I'm looking forward to getting great advice and learning as much as I can about my Bumblebee.

I have been lurking on this site for a month! Bought a 2006 MC auto tranny base model that didn't work out so well...luckily, the dealer is letting me exchange it for a 2009 MC (not sport) with 10K miles. The chili red, white top, white capped mirrors, bluetooth & Ipod (don't own one) adapter. Got a 6 speed this time. Any advice on how to drive in the mountains? We're going from San Antonio to Durango Colorado, and we REALLY want to take the '09 (which I am picking up TOMORROW!!!) :-)
Well, first of all congrats on the new car!
You'll find you'll be needing a lot more RPM's up there at altitude, as you're gonna lose 25% or more of your HP in a non-S, so just keep it wound up and be patient on those long uphills.....

Ha! Thanks. You're kinda scaring me. I think we're going to take it out next weekend on a drive in the Texas Hill Country. Some pretty steep inclines and, upwards also. Should I be worried, or will this car handle it?
All I can say is WOW!
The difference between the '06 auto tranny and the '09 6-speed standard is amazing.
Now, I have to find other threads were stuff about my "new" car are pertinent.
I'm really amazed at the difference the standard has. And, it has buttons I still have to lear to use (Sport, DSC...). BUT, I DID manage to pair my phone tonight. That was kinda neat.
Crap, I wish I didn't have to work tomorrow and this weekend. I want to spend time with my Baby! Need to name it.
Actually, I've decided on "Scarlett." Has a Buckeye ring to it, and it fits!

Hey, "How".
I found the answer to my question in my manual...Hills are meant to be driven...not "cruised." I'm looking forward to our venture into the mountains.
Me...Scarlett...my dog Einstein (mini Schnauzer) and another passenger (my husband, who will likely insist on driving this car!)
Thanks for the welcome.

Hello Spursfan and Bobot to the forum. Spursfan don't let the KC person bs you, the MC has more than enough power to take the Durango hills without any sweat. Just keep in sport mode and rev the devil out of it and you will be able to hold your own against any comers (including S types). Enjoy!
Greetings everyone -
Soon to be one more Mini on the Road in PDX!
I pick up my baby on 11/23. 2011 MCS, pepper wht, sport stripe, Sport Pkg, Prem. Pkg, chromed in and out...Just tickled and can't wait to enter into the ranks of the obsessed!
