Mk2 Colonial Viper in S. Arizona
Mk2 Colonial Viper in S. Arizona
First post
05 MC HB/W w/ all the chrome, premium pkg, R81's in silver, and (believe it or not) the cassette radio option.
Build date: 03/08/05
Will reside in lower left of Southern Arizona - probably the only one ...
Name comes from Battlestar Galactica (ever notice the similarity between the toggle switches in the MINI and that of the first series Viper?). The Mark 2 designation was a fun coincidence between the series & Mini History.
Looking forward to a driver that has air conditioning (the aircooled cars don't, and my wife gets the Prius), on the very rare morning, heat to the windshield (again, aircooled = little heat), and relatively no hands-on maintenance.
Also waited for the updated passenger air bag OC system as we have three children.
Glad to see such a vibrant owner's group
Scott
Other cars in the stable:
1969 Porsche 912 #3078 Bahama Yellow/preservation class
1976 Porsche 912E #86 Black/driver
2004 Toyota Prius

Rural Owners
Thanks for the welcome message and the invitation. I'm sure there are other rural owners who appreciate the support system this board provides. I learned quite a bit long before I ordered, about options that hadn't even had formal service bulletins published (advanced airbags for 05), and made good decisions because on the information. I'm sure ownership (once it arrives) will also bring its own list of questions, AMVIV, etc.

HB & IB
Thanks - I originally wanted IB and then learned it was no longer available
I haven't seen HB in person but hope it retains a bit of the royal blue quality - I've seen the photos & discussion but the color seems to vary quite a bit given the resolution, lighting, etc.
I also appreciate your 7-holes - They add to the classic look IMHO

My IB was parked next to a HB at the last MINI meet. Nobody could tell the difference from far away - they looked identical. Right when you get up close they are like night and day. Looking down on the curves of the hood, the Indi Blue turns deeep dark blue, much darker than it is from far away, and the Hyper Blue turns lighter than it is from far away. Still a beautiful color, just not quite the same as IB up close.

IB & HB
That's great to hear! The IB was/is a great color, like the bright colors from the 1970's (I don't recall first hand, just a bit before my time) on the small sports coupes. I considered CR until I learned HB would be available 1/05, but wasn't thrilled with the bright AZ sun slowing turning my car pink
I thought the name fit - I'm not a hardcore fan but definitely appreciate the series (first hand this time). We have the first series and I have yet to see the remake - on cue w/ netflix but the wait is forever.
It should arrive late April/early May to MINI North Scottsdale - it's got all the chrome options, though I may be swapping the mirror caps for white - depends on the bling vs. retro factor.
Autoweek had great coverage on the MINI and given the alternatives in the range, I think it is amazing. I think the 05 should be reasonably well sorted out. I also suppose the 06 will see a price jump w/ the devaluation of the dollar, etc.
Once it arrives I'll shoot pictures and see how the color glows in the AZ sun, chrome mirror caps/no chrome mirror caps debate, but until then I'll just keep checking out your picts as the ship heads for Panama

MNS & order
I ordered w/ full deposit ($2K) in December and was told 4-6 months to delivery, given the option of a February build, but chose to wait for March to insure the new air bag deactivation system update was installed. I later learned that from 1/05 forward all have the new system but in early February there was still little news.
I was told 4-6 months in Dec. for an MC, and up to a year for an MCS. I didn't ask about a convertible given the intense heat in Southern AZ.
Working w/ MNS has been a bit of a challenge in terms of communication but I found calling more responsive than emails. I'm working w/ Debi, and understand from her that they are swamped. Once the order was complete, a faxed authorization in the same day led to a production number the next, all details correct in the owner's lounge, and little communication since.
John (Manager) in the MNS Service Department has been quite helpful as we tracked what little information was available given the air bag system update, on/off switch options, etc.
Hope that helps - Scott
