Doing my first ever head gasket repair on my R53 mini. I marked the cam sprocket and chain but my dumb *** forgot to mark on the cam so she’s completely out of timing. I’ve been reading all the different versions of the manual and *only* the Bentley one says the bright links aren’t related to timing so now I’m a little confused on the proper way to do it. The single bright link on top lined up with the camshaft sprocket timing mark with the bright link + timing mark facing about north east, cylinder 1 is in TDC. I’m a lube tech at pretty decent mechanic shop with master mechanics but just wanted to post on here because I know BMW Mini’s are notorious for stumping even the best of mechanics. Any help is much appreciated! Bottom crank gear timing marks lined up with 2 bright links facing down. Top cam sprocket timing mark lined up with single bright chain. Dimple on camshaft, I feel as if this may be related to timing but I’m not sure.
