Hello, GTI Owner, MCS Driver

Hello, my name is Steve ("HI STEVE!!!")

I am the current owner for a Volkswagen GTI 1.8T that has many upgrades (T3/T4 Turbo Setup, BBS RGR's, Boser Hood, etc.)

My girlfriend(maryrose) has a Dark Silver/White Roof MCS w/s-lites

We are both very avid fans of the Mini community. While her car is stock (except for an alta antenna) we are plannin on some future upgrades for her car come the summer time including rims and perhaps a pulley/software. But i just wanted to introduce myself as i will be making posts frequently around the forums w/questions and opinions.

Thanks,
Steve

Your V Dub

Hey there and welcome to NAM. The RGRs look great on your car!
You two have the best of both worlds.. you have the speed and she has the handling.. I am sure yours handles much better with the work you have put into it! The pulley and program will help her car a great deal but one of the first things you should do is ditch the S HEAVIES.. they are not lite at all!
I put OZ Superleggeras on mine and WOW did it change the feeling..

Catch ya around,

Craig

Hey guys...yeah we are looking into rims now for the summer. She is waiting for her runflats to wear out, should be about another 10K miles. Shell have that by summer time (23K in 1 year on her car!).

Budget is kinda limited, she isnt going to go crazy like i did on my car.

But right now some of the finalists are:

FLIK WASP (Anthercite)
ADR M-SPORTS
Keskin KT4's ( i like these for it)
a few others....cant break the bank on rims
of course id like her to get some RGR's, or LM's, or even HRE's. But we arent all that lucky ya know.

Might do some H&R springs to satisy a 1" drop all around w/the wheels.
She is looking to 17's since its her daily and has to be driven alot, 18's might be too large for her to handle. i like 18's :-)

Definitely do not get 18" wheels for NYC area driving. In fact, I would go to 16" wheels.

Check out www.nemini.org for a very active, local forum covering North Jersey, New York and Connecticut. You'll find lots of MINI gatherings. There is also www.newyorkmini.org.

For technical info, and a wider MINI community, NAM is where it's at!

I live on Long Island...while we have "some" pot holes....it's nowhere near the hazards of driving in Queens/NYC/The Bronx, etc.

17's will be just right for her.

I travel the Cross Bronx Expressway to and from CT every week. Have not had a problem with my 17" wheels on my lowered MINI. However, in suburban Bucks County, where the roads are better than the CBE, I blew 2 run flats, 2 days in a row, on each of my 2 MINIs, one of which is not lowered, and also damaged one rim on the non lowered one. The other run flat that I blew, (3 total) was on the NJ Turnpike, going only 45 mph in traffic, 'cause of a little chunk missing at a seam of pavement sections. Those are my stories. I switched to 16" wheels on one of the cars, still have 17" wheels on the other, but no longer fitted with run-flats. Ditching them should be helpful.

I'm sure she'll be fine, just needs to be careful as it doesn't take much. Good luck and welcome to the MINI community!

hey thanks tonotobird...

looks like she is going to keep the runflats though.
she doesnt like the fact of not having a spare tire, so the runflats give her that reassurance. Also the idea of fix-a-flat she isnt crazy about.

That's easily the best GTI I have seen. I have always loved the GTI all the way back to 83...

Very sweet, makes me want to trade my MINI... Almost...

Shumopper welcome to NAM! Your car looks just like my daughters. We have a MINI/VW household too! I love the GTI. She's got the VR6 and that thing cooks! I had to borrow her car when mine was in for service once and I gave it back to her stating: "keep it away from me, that thing compels you to speed!". It's bad enough in my car!

Glad you're here, ask all the question you want and keep posting those pics!

I got a newer one somewhere, but i dont think i uploaded it....

here is a 278 WHP one....which with the drivetrain loss equates to around 300 ish....i got a high 290 one somewhere, cant find it...looking to make 315-330WHP this spring with some proper tuning and bumping the boost a bit (ran 20 PSI on that run below, looking to push 24 PSI next time)

I'm just teasing.

I already saw your car in VWVORTEX.com. I use to have a 97 VW GTI.

You got a sweet gti shu, and those rims fit nicely too i was wondering if you know about injen intakes, my cousin (i have some of his pix in my gallery) installed it in his gti and it looks so nice in there. Its sorta look like the k&n system for the mcs, but a lot more nicer. wish they make intakes for our cars though but anyhoo, welcome shu

Hey...i actually had an Injen CAI on my 1.8T prior to my Big Turbo upgrade...i liked the Injen alot. and i have had EuroSport, AEM, and EVOMS in the past....i mean a CAI is a filter on a stick (or as people say)..but the fitment of the injen and quality of the build was outstanding...they are pricey, but worth the cost in less hassles.

There is no way I'm jumping in that 1.8T. Duaghter says she'd love to trade hers in for one. I told her she can keep the car and the tickets to herself! I don't know why, but I just have a lead right foot. Gotta speed!

But then again, even when it's sitting still it's so sweet to look at. It amazes me that your car from the front angle looks almost exactly like hers.

Welcome to the forums...I'm mike@triplezoom over on vortex. Former VW owner as well...mini's kick VW's *** in terms of driving experience. Can't match them in ultimate speed but they are better handling cars.
Mike
