Cost of Driving Lamps

I ordered my 05' MCS two days ago at Towson Mini, in Maryland. I thought I might want to add Driving Lights, and the dealer quoted me $899 for the lights, installed. The lights list at $400 for the kit. Five hundred bucks to install driving lights - seems a bit high!!! I may pass on them, I ordered the Xenon lights, I'm sure they'll prove sufficiant.

Is $499 a typical price for installing Driving Lights?

Do it yourself

I would install them yourself.. and not get them from MINI at all. PIAA makes a pair that are not too hard to do, and cost just under $300. There are a couple of threads here on how to do it. Just do a search for PIAA install.

I installed mine a couple of weeks ago it was pretty easy (course I had my dad out of retirment to help) It took us only 2 hours or so.
$900 seems insane!

Lots of people say the PIAA are better lights anyway

Just my buck fifty. Good luck

Do the PIAA's, other wise you will need to get the dealer to activate the OEM light kit on top of the install being very in depth...the PIAA's install in about 30-ish minutes...

Anyone heard anything good or bad about the Hella FF200 Mini Cooper kit? Looks pretty sharp, and I've always had good experances with Hella.. PIAA's not bad either..

But, either way - the dealership is not getting 900 bucks for 300 dollar driving lamps!

Thanks for the help!

PIAAs all the way. Easy install, and only $250 on ebay.

MINI Peabody charged $695 (total) to install - and given what a job the install is, I was happy to pay.

I don't know anything about needing to "activate" OEM lights - it's just wires and stuff ... see the install docs on MotoringFile; aftermarket lights will require a similar level of effort.

PIAAs are easy..... mount the relay and fuse, stick the switch through the firewall, tap the highbeam wire, and mount the lights. Done.

You can do all this for around $600+/- if you don't mind installing it your self

The factory lights are different for the cars with or without headlight washers. Is this true with the aftermarket lights?

I just ordered those small lights in MSFITOY's photo - the PIAA 1100x. Ebay, new, less than 180 delivered!

Crap, now someone is selling them for 150, 160 with shipping!:

Oh well...

Curious, what is the weight of these lights (the big ones), I guess they are the PIAA 540s, everything, including brackets, etc? Best guess is fine. Thanks.

Can you quickly remove/unplug the PIAA kit? I'd like somthing I can remove before I autocross.

Anyone have direct experance with the Hella FF200's? For some reson I just like the look of the Hella's more than PIAA.. Call me weird..

Yes, you can quickly remove the PIAAs. Just enplug em and undo one bold and they are off.
