Bittersweet Intro

Greetings from Chi-Town...

Where dudes total your parked car and drive off!

That's the bumper of the guy who crashed into me. Cops got the plate off of it, lol.

Worst part is... I just picked it up not two months ago! T'was a mint 2006 S hardtop with a 6 speed and 50,000 freakin' miles on the clock! Sport chrono package, leather seats, nice sound system, running like a top. Just had the Llumar Pinnacle tint done at Chicago Auto Pros a few weeks ago.

(First wash)

(window tint)

(on the street)

Kinda gutted.

So while I go through a big fiasco trying to track down the driver (no need to get into that here), I need to sell her. I'm willing to bet she's totaled.

I was on this website for a good minute while I was searching for her, and I know that you all are the experts. I was hoping to get some advice.

What might this be worth to someone? As you can see, the driver's side is pretty well smashed up. The windshield cracked in the lower driver's side corner. No airbags deployed. It got pushed into the curb a bit. I'm happy to answer any questions as best I can.

The guy who came and towed it pulled it up onto a flatbed and took it to a shop out in the burbs where I know the mechanic. It's sitting out back. I don't want to keep it there too long if possible.

(Sorry, I don't even have any photos of the interior. I didn't expect to need them.)

I'm going out this weekend to pull the Recaro seat that the P.O. installed, and swap in the original, which is literally in a plastic bag in a relative's garage. That's at least one piece that I plan to part out.

It was sweet while it lasted.

Hi and welcome to NAM!
Such a shame some jerk hit and ran it!
06 fine cars like yours, should be restored if possible, but I can not see the extent of the damage.
I hope you are able to replace it with another!
The scary thing these days, are the huge amount of people without insurance!
I feel your pain!

Sorry! But the good thing is you weren't in the car at the time. Don't know what you paid for it but it looks like an expensive repair job. Maybe you can buy it back and rebuild on the cheap? Would be out of my comfort zone, but several posters here seemingly would be into that sort of build.

I would be...very angry.

Good luck with that, I've dealt with garbage people before and the law always seems to favor them for some reason.

Rite, like we should pity them for being a drunk or drug addict and not working...it's not their fault,it's society's . No one ever takes responsibility for their faults anymore .. it's just terrible

Thanks, guys. It hasn't been easy, but we actually found the guy who did it and I've filed a claim w/ his insurance. It's not over by a long shot, but hopefully the next stage will go fairly.

It's out of my league as far as a rebuild goes. There is considerable damage.

I've had it on Craigslist and OfferUp for the past couple of weeks as a rebuild project/parts car, getting crazy offers.

Crazy thing is I hadn't had a car for seven years before I scratched the itch and bought this one. Other crazy thing is I'm actually thinking about getting another, but it won't be easy to replace the spec that I had ('06 S, manual, sport chrono , mint interior, super low miles., etc.). We'll see.

i hope you have better luck with your case than I am..
Wish I had any extra $$$$. That car could be a perfect father daughter project for my family..

It once took over 2 years to completely resolve an accident I was involved in with a commercial driver, who was at fault. Good luck man.

I collected my check yesterday. If the right one pops up, I might have to do it again.

Good luck. Think about how much fun it was to drive and find another one. You might find one just as nice, or even nicer. Think positive.
