Strut mounts look like crap straight after replacement. Why?
One of my R53s has a problem. Strut mounts were really bad, replaced them when I got KYB struts. Even after install these new moogs didn't look good at all, now less that 2000km later, they look trashed. Planning on getting strut tower plates to fix the slight mushrooming, but need to understand why this mini is having issues with the mounts. Mushrooming is very light, angle of the pics make it look fish eyed. FYI The rest of the suspension, including control arm.bushings were fixed when I got the KYB struts. Everything else looks and feels good. Is it possibly just really shitty quality mounts? Moog doesn't usually make garbage
Those look horrible! I can't imagine new mounts looking that bad after only 2000km. Perhaps they were defective or very old stock, that's alot of cracking of the rubber(?) material. Did you install yourself or did someone else?
That's the thing though, everything on the suspension minus the KYB struts is stock. Prefer the stock wheels and height. Right when I finished installing them, the caps were already sticking out. Like I didn't even need to start driving the car before they started looking odd. The cracking started happening quickly after. Is it possible moogs make shitty mounts right out of the box?

I have a GMC 2500HD that I needed to replace the pitman and idler arm. The general conses was that moog problem solver was a decent replacement, if you got a US made one. If you got the Chinese made ones, there were issues. So maybe you got a bad one?
K, they were hard to find, but people have had bad issues with moog top mounts indeed. Thanks for the reply guys and help guys. I mostly wanted to be sure there wasn't another common issue that would cause this. I'll consider this thread closed and move on to the next thing.
