New NJ Mini convertible owner here!

I'm a brand spankin' new owner of a (lightly) used 2006 Mini Convertible with 12,000 miles. Because I bought this car from a NON-Mini dealer, there was little they could tell me about the car. I *believe* it has automatic climate control (how do I know for sure?), and some type of theft deterrent system (how do I know?). Also, is there anyway to pop in a VIN somewhere and find out exactly what options were included in the car? In any case, I had a glorious drive to work this morning....with the top down.

Hello...fellow new-used owners. My MINI was a lease return and the local dealer (not a MINI dealer) provided a 'Manheim Simulcast' condition report. It has all the pertinent information as far as inspection goes, but it also has a list of all the options. I know these can be obtained for auctions, but does anybody know if there is a similar 'history' report with details/options list.. for those that didn't get much info?

Guess it's time to shift into 1st gear

Thanks to all who have contributed to NAM. There is an amazing amount of info for new and old MINI owners (guess I'm both... but not that old . Picked up an almost new repossessed 07 MC a couple months ago. With the help of NAM, I was able to diagnose an existing 1st - 2nd shift grind problem in some of the 07-08 manual transmissions which was later replaced by MINI. I made the mistake of driving an MCS while my MC was in the shop (used to drive an `85 Mustang GT)... that turbo is sweet! However, I still very much enjoy driving the MC and love the fuel economy.

Hello! and thanks for all the helpful info

my husband has finally agreed to let me down size!! from a 4x4 Expedition to a Cooper Clubman. We haven't actually gone to the dealership yet. Hope to do that soon. (this weekend!!)

I only know that I've loved Mini's since the first time I saw one!
so I can't wait to learn more about them. and to finally go and order my very own.

thank you for all the info, and I look forward to joining the "club"

Should I be overly concerned with the complaints some Mini owners are making.

Ok here goes. I intend to purchase my first Mini in the next couple of weeks, but I'm not sure if I want an 05'-06' Cooper S or an 07'-08' Cooper S. Today I was reading consumeraffairs.com and read the horror stories of Mini owners. CVT transmissions going out at 55,000 miles. Electrical problems, brake problems, the check engine light continually coming on, and needing brakes at 15,000 +- miles etc.. Some were to be covered under warranty, but Mini refusing the warranty items and claiming driver abuse. I understand that some people will always complain, but I kept on reading similar problems from many people. My question is, have any of you had these problems and have you been taken care of by the dealership?

First of all welcome!!! Although problem do happen here and there, most of the folks here have a terrific time owning MINIs and most issures are 1) not going to leave you stranded and 2) easily dealt with under warranty. Owner satisfaction (even with the odd issue) if off the charts!!!! I'm loved my first MINI ('03) so much I bought another ('07). You'll find lots of folks here who have done the same. I suspect most of us had to have something sorted initially, but overall MINIs are pretty solid. I have to say my personal experience at my dealership have been far and above anything I have ever seen.

Hi Everybody! I've been reading on this site for months and gathering all sorts of useful information. So first of all...Thank you, for sharing. Now armed with a head full of mini knowledge I am off to order my very first mini cooper on Monday. I don't think I'll be able to sleep all week-end. I feel like I did when I was a kid at Christmas. I can't wait to order it. My boyfriend says "This mini thing is like you're addicted". I say wait until he drives it !!! Then he"ll know ...

Hello All,

Just ordered my 2008 MINI on Monday June 30th.
She is a MC with Sparkling Silver (roof in body color), manual, premium package, blue tooth, grey leatherette sport seats and gotham grey interior. Expected delivery date is mid August.

I must say, I originally test drove one just for the mpg but wound up blown away by performance and just plain fun to drive. In my younger days I've owned MG, Saabs and Honda so I immediately fell in love with its cornering and generally handling.

I happened upon this site after I ordered. Thanks for all of the useful information the photos of gotham grey, sparkling silver etc. have been very helpful. Thanks especially for Penfed Credit Union, looks like I just missed 4.25% by a few days but was able to lock in at 4.5%. Still the best rate around.

I look forward tracking and modifying after I pick up. See you in the forums

Going for it!

Hi everyone, I thought I'd finally say hello. I've been lurking for a long time and must say I've got the Mini madness. I've read every post and at the moment remain totally confused as to which one to buy. I have driven SAABS for almost 30 years many of which were and are modified turbo models. Although I'm drawn to the S for performance I'm still caught up on the non-S as a good alternative. I hope to test drive each this week, make the correct choice and lay down the deposit. I think this forum is excellent. I love the enthusiasim and good fellowship. Looking forward to being a contributing member. Thank to all. Dan

Dan, I too am a newbie here, and I can tell you that you will learn a lot from these members. I hope I can find and buy my MINI S soon.

Danny, are you planning to buy new or used? If new, are you thinking about the '08's or plan on waiting for the '09's?

I'm planning to buy new. As i understand it, if I were to order one this week it will be an 09 by the time it's built and delivered. I believe the build time is out to October. Dan

Hi, I'm Amy from LA and I just bought a 2008 MCS in automatic. I'm a newbie so was not ready for manual, but am trying the steptronic out.

I'll be searching the reviews for a lot of really basic questions...how to clean the car, maintenance, etc. If you have any suggestions for good posts to read please let me know. I have always loved MINIs and hope to become an enthusiast as well.

Hey guys, this forum is great as I've already learned a lot about the R56 MCS because of you. I'm going to be ordering an '09 so it'll be a long and excruciating wait for me

Hi

Hi, im Peter
I'm an 18 yr old mexican and am currently in the debate of either getting a MINI cooper (non turbo), an audi a3 1.4, or a vw Jetta. All fully equipped except the audi. I have given thought to every option, but I think I have reached a concousion... and that's why I have joined
I currently drive my dad's 93' Buick Century and am planning to get my MINI on december.. I can't wait!!!
