Greetings from Chicago

Hi All,

Just wanted to take a moment to introduce myself. I just bought my first MINI, a 2008 Clubman with about 115K miles. Very nice condition and loads of fun to drive. My 1st generation Miata was starting to get inconvenient, so I thought I'd get something a little more practical.

I work for a nonprofit and restore classic cars on the side. I'm currently working on a 1934 Ford coupe hot rod, a 1931 Ford Model A Tudor, and I have a 1972 Triumph Stag waiting in the wings for when I have time.

I'll most likely be on here asking about technical issues and fitment, so thanks in advance for any help.

Nick

Welcome to NAM.

Have you read up on the N14 engine in your car?

Mine is the non-turbo, so I understand that to be the N12. Is that correct?

Welcome to the forum. While we typically ask for pictures of the MINI, I would also be interested in seeing the cars in your shop.

What type of nonprofit do you work with? I support several nonprofits and find it a rewarding career.

Hi All,

Thanks for the warm welcomes. As requested, here is the Clubman and a couple pictures of my other cars...

This is right after I bought her - she'd been sitting in a warehouse building for a while and so has accumulated some dust. I've since done a thorough cleaning but don't have any pics yet...

Here's my '34 Ford. This is right after I put in a new Chevy 350 engine (she had a tired old 283 when I bought her) and had the fenders painted to match. The fenders were originally silver, and I've never been a big fan of two-tone on hot rods. The body is steel but the fenders are fiberglass. On this one I still have to finish the interior.

Here's my '31 Model A Tudor, right after I bought her. I've been doing a light rebuild on this one - new head gasket, rebuilt alternator and starter, new engine gaskets, etc. Also had the radiator flushed and some leaks repaired. Very close to done on this one.

The nonprofit I work for is the RPM Foundation. We use programs and grant funding to encourage the next generation of automotive and marine restoration specialists to enter the field. For every graduate of a restoration training program, there are four job openings, so the Foundation works towards ensuring there will eventually be enough people out there with skills, knowledge, and passion necessary to keep classic cars and boats functioning out there in the world.

Thanks again!
Nick
