Welcome to NAM.

A Gen1 MINI is a good handling car. Throw on a stiffer rear swaybar, and a supercharger pulley and you have great handling small performance car.

Not that I have any preferences . . . .

The classifieds section here is pretty slim for R53 parts in my opinion, the stuff that does pop up is usually overpriced or sells immediately. I've had good luck buying from members here, when I can get first dibs on parts.

Diverter - Save the money for now, it is better spent elsewhere. The MCS is pretty quick in stock form and not lacking in power. It struggles in the handling department. The diverters have been proven to lower intake temperatures but I don't think the gains are worth the cost. In reality they are just sheet metal, you can try to make your own.

headers - They are expensive ($1000+) and as a result I would also recommend spending the money elsewhere. The power gains you will see on a stock ECU is not going to be worth the money spent. $1000 is well on it's way to a quality suspension setup.

exhaust - Pricey but high on my list because the factory stock exhaust and the factory JCW exhaust are both pretty awful. Don't expect any real performance gains, but that's not what the exhaust is about anyway.

pulleys SC 17% and crank 2% - Make sure you getting a crank pulley that retains damping. You're going to have to run colder plugs, this is a pretty high strung pulley combination.

coil-overs - You get what you pay for in this category, don't buy cheap junk.

Budget yourself some money for repairs and maintenance. The first thing I had to do was a new clutch because the throw out bearing went bad. Minis are not the most reliable cars, it is not a Honda.

Welcome and Congrats

With getting an R53 before you mod I would suggest getting it in hand and looking it over to see what maint items you need as these may eat into your mod budget But we have also had people buy cars and find out they already had mods like pulleys and sway bars so that may save you.

After the maint the supercharger pulley, intake, exh, and rear sway bar are the go to mods that make the biggest bang for the buck difference and should always be the first things done.

Hope we can help

First thanks for all the advice.

The car car needs a few things but nothing major

radiator cooling fan
power steering pump

recent oil change, new tires and battery.

i am trying to get all the parts and attack everything at once.
Considering waiting to get the header and exhaust after what I read here.

I do do want a nice or at least decent coil overs. I eventually intend to track the car. I’m not a pro but enjoy the track and auto cross.
I was looking at the God Speed mono shock $700. Not really sure what to get, I don’t want to spend crazy money for something super professional and not get the use out of it, this will be my daily driver as well.
Im driving 100 miles a day 85% highway. I paid 1500 for the car was looking to put 3k on it and that’s about it for now.

Welcome.

I would also look a the Brakes... no sense in going fast if you can't depend on your binders.

I would convert to Stainless brake Lines, redo the brake pads and rotors and flush and fill the complete system.

With the 17% and 2% pulleys, you can switch to the JCW injectors (380cc) and look at the increasing you airflow then you can load a JCW ECM tune for a all round quick performance update.

Best of luck.

Motor On!

You can wire in a replacement resistor for the radiator fan motor if you've lost low speed. It's a common failure and not a challenging modification.

What I experienced was the high speed fan circuit turning on while the car was running and continuing to run after the car was turned off to compensate for the low speed fan circuit not engaging.

It's a very simple circuit. Here's some reading to start you off.

R53 models are a blast to upgrade and own. They just feel more connected to the road than other MINI models. Congrats!

So I got the R53 two days ago.
WOW. Drives great and looks great but it does have a few issues

steering pump runs constantly (already order fan and pump)
headed is leaking or busted (already order full exhaust)
i order pretty much everything that I’ve listed before with the exception of the injectors and suspension.

I need to to get the 380cc but still looking everywhere I looked is like 500 for them didn’t think it was that expensive, never bought injectors before so this is a new mod for me in all the vehicles I’ve own.

I should be getting started the weekend of the 9 of March so I will keep you guys posted. That’s when all the parts should be here.
Thanks guys

Keep an eye on the classified section. Just recently I saw a set of 1st Gen JCW injectors for sale.

Hi Ivan,
I have a Megan racing header with nipples to put on sensors. These are not really street legal. It is new and unused, but I did open the box to check it out.
$190+ shipping

We wish you the best on your build!

How come? Do they lack catalysts? I'm just curious.

That is right, it does not have a cat. It is more like a resonator with a screen around the inside and straight thru! I am guessing the screen builds up enough heat to allow the ox sensors to work.

You should be good then as long as you live in a state that only does OBDII code-based emissions inspection.
