New guy from NC

Hi! I’m Chris, and I’m new here, but not new to car forums. I just picked up a Chili Red 2011 base hardtop, which my 9 year old has dubbed “The Micro Machine”. I think you guys call it a “justa”, as in, just a Cooper? Nothing super special about the car, it’s a 6 speed, came in at a good price, and only has 50k on the clock. I bought it for a commuter, a new position has me driving around 100 miles a day. Not a good commute in my Silverado! I love the Cooper, and have already made my $100 donation to my local Mini dealer for the iPod cable. I also won an eBay auction for an auto-dim/Homlink mirror, and ordered an armrest. Oh, and a programming cable and a copy of NCS Expert are in the way too. I’m no stranger to playing with the computer! After that, I’m just going to drive the wheels off it. ~39 mpg, AND it puts a smile on my face? That’s a win! I’m counting on the forum for the technical info that I need to keep my Micro Machine in fighting shape, as I hate paying someone else to do work that I can handle. I’ll post a couple of obligatory pics later today... Thanks for reading!

-Chris

Welcome to NAM. Any pictures?

Any MINI is a great handling car and you have some great roads along the Blue Ridge Parkway. Just did a "day trip" from Mt. Airy to Stuart.

You ever want to play hookie, there are a few us around these parts ready to play once the weather gets a little warmer (and the salt/sand is washed off the twisties).

Welcome to the forum Chris. Have you joined THMMC yet? I'll post a link for you in case you haven't. Membership is good for discounts at Flow Mini and G3 Automotive. If you ever find yourself needing some assistance with maintenance or mods check with Chris at G3. He does good work for a reasonable price.
Sounds like you have the perfect car for your commute. Not to mention the weekend toy aspect.

Thanks for the warm welcome! I’m starting a new job on Tuesday, after being with the same company for 10.5 years, so I don’t know how soon I’ll be able to play hooky, but that sounds fun. I’m actually in Mocksville, which isn’t too far south of Mt Airy. We go up there a couple of times a year.

As far as Tar Heel Minis, I have not joined yet, but will. Good to know about the discount at Flow. I cringed when I bought the stupid media cable on Friday. This isn’t my first European car, and I also currently own a Mercedes, so I don’t know why I was shocked. At any rate, I’m loving this thing!

On a different note, what are people using for photo hosting and direct linking? I was trying to link a couple of pics, but am having trouble. I haven’t been active on a forum in a few years, but I have been active on several over the years (usually related to whatever car I had at the time). I used to use Phitobucket, but apparently my account was purged, and the free ones don’t allow direct links now. I opened an account with Imgur, but can’t figure out the tags to direct link from there. In vBulleti , it was always the <IMG> tag, but that doesn’t seem to be working here. Any input?

Figured it out (I think). I’ve never been on a forum that simply allowed attachments. I was overthinking it! Too many years working in IT, I guess. At any rate, here are a couple of snaps. I haven’t had the time/weather to get some good shots. It just came home on Thursday.

Nice. I like the red color line interior. Wish mine had that. Get used to it as is for now because we have a bunch of enablers on this site who will be more than happy to suggest what mods you simply cannot live without. I've been guilty of the same thing in the past as well as a not so reluctant victim, but I'll cut you some slack for the time being.

I do too. The red color line was one thing that made this particular car jump out at me. The other was the solid color. I really like the look of the solid color red and the base grille together. I’m not usually a chrome guy, but it works here. I *THINK* I’ll be able to resist the mod bug on this car pretty well, since I’m considering it a commuter that I can enjoy. It’s a ton better than the Jetta TDI or Chevy Cruze that I was also considering. I just couldn’t let that much of my soul get crushed every day. I’ve had plenty of modified vehicles over the years, and am casually in the market for a 1st gen Camaro, or Tri 5 Chevy, so I can go nuts on one of those.

I have friend with a red MINI. Lets say he was over enjoying the throttle and when stopped the cop said he saw the speed on the radar and a "red" car in a pack of other cars.

Sometimes it is not nice that our cars make an impression on another.
