I have followed the tech article posted on pelicanparts.com showing how to drain and refill the trans in my R53. My question is if the car is on level ground and you remove the inspection plug should any fluid come out. I thought the level is controlled by the overflow pipe and very little fluid should come out. My car drains almost 1-1/2 quarts before it stops when the inspection plug is removed. I am wondering if the previous own may have over filled the trans in the process of a fluid change

Hi Speedman!

Based on factory instructions, it appears this transmission was over-filled. However, the level needs to be checked:

1. static, with engine off
2. engine at idle
3. shift from park to drive twice, then back to park
4. with engine at operating temperature

Please let us know if this helps!

I recently purchased an 06 R53 Automatic. I replaced the transferfluid with Amsoil and I had 2 qts come out on level ground. I believe that at a certain temp, it is possible that the trans fluid is at a different level. I replaced exactly with the amount I put in.
