Potential New Owner

Hello All!!

Im in the process of shopping for a new Daily Driver, as my 2014 jeep lease will be up the summer.

A little info on myself firstly. 25 years old, I currently drive a heavily modified/stanced BMW e46 M3, and daily a 2014 Jeep Grand Cherokee. I'm very interested in looking at a 2016/17 F56 JCW to take over for my daily duties, as I'm tired of driving a large SUV everywhere.

My M3 Thread, If anyone is interested in checking it out.

I joined the community to start researching a new car. I will probably be looking at purchasing a F56 JCW, and will be learning as much as I can before I make the decision.

The first question I have is...

I've noticed that most press cars/reviews of the F56 JCW show the Auto? Is the auto substantially better than the manual? I would prefer a manual, but if the auto is drastically better I may have to go that route.

Also, what kind of aftermarket parts are available for the F56 JCW? Tuning? Suspension? I don't want to go overboard modifying it, thats what my m3 is for, just enough to put my own touches on it.

Thanks all! Looking forward to hopefully joining the community.

- Rich

Welcome to the world of Mini motoring!

The F56 third generation Mini is longer, lower, wider, and slightly more aerodynamic than its predecessors.

The instrument layout and optional new LED headlamps are nice features, too. You would likely be happy with either transmission, but should decide if the engine stop-start fuel saving function is something you would like. It’s available with the automatic.

When you are ready for some performance and appearance upgrades, please check out Mini Mania and our full inventory of parts and accessories for the F56.

You can also find helpful information in our articles section. We have many knowledgeable experts on staff with years of experience working on all generations of Minis.

I hope this helps. Let us know which model you decide to purchase!

Enjoy the Mini world. I just bought a 2016 JCW.

Plenty to upgrade; suspension, exhaust, intake, tune, intercoolers the list goes on from a performance stand point. From a cosmetic standpoint I would bet Mini has the most options to change just about anything you can dream of.

I got the auto. One was for this is my DD and traffic in a manual blows. I will tell you this is my second Mini (1st was an auto 2012 Cooper S) and this auto is WAY better. I had a E92 M3 and this shifts very similar to that. I am sure they copy some of the technology. Go drive one for yourself and put the car in sport mode, you will be impressed.

I started a mod thread of my own if you want to check it out.

Cheers and enjoy.

Thanks for the input.

I'm definitely going to drive both before I make a decision. The traffic issue isnt a problem with me, I have a 10 mile round trip commute.

The shifting on the auto seems just as quick as the Auto's in BMW's I've driven. Also the burble in sport mode is unreal. Wondering if it will burble that much in a manual.

As for performance parts, everything I have seen is for the Base or S models. Do the S model and JCW both use the B48 motor? Just tweaked a little for the JCW?

Im trying to think of more questions, but I'm sure they'll come to me as I look deeper into the forums, it just seems like there isnt much out there on the F56 since they're still on the newer side.

My local dealer would be Mini of Morristown in NJ, anyone have experience with them? Or should I look for another dealer in NJ?

Very clean M3. Welcome to NAM! I agree, take them for a spin before you make your purchase. I'm partial to a manual myself, personally. There isn't too much out there yet for the F56 models, but things are slowly coming out. Be sure to drop into the F56 model section and talk to some more F56 owners. https://www.northamericanmotoring.co...talk-2014-428/

LOL. Welcome to NAM. I read that differently at first then realized North American Mini.

I'm partially to the manual, just because I feel Mini and Manual just go together.

Really looking forward to test driving them in the upcoming weeks.

Sometimes our eyes play tricks on us.

The thing about manuals is that I also feel like I have more control over the vehicle, especially in winter driving conditions. Good luck with the test drives and hope you pick up something soon!

Now here's a question.

If I'm going to be ordering a car. I would like to have the Dynamic Dampening Control, but if I plan on using H&R/Vogtland/Cravenspeed springs paired with stock dampers. Are any control modules needed to keep the car from having a panic attack?
