New Mini Owner! Kinda scared...

Hey all,

Just purchased a 02 Cooper launch edition and I've got her in the shop now for the safety. Not too pleased with the results as I was hoping for less initial cost up front to get driving but I think I got the car at a steal! So excited to get driving as I come from a big muscle car family and have been driving a fox mustang for awhile. It's goina be a sharp learning curve to drive my new Mini. Hoping to get to know some people and I know I'm going to rely on this community to help me out.

As long as you are happy with your purchase, you will learn a maxim of small lower powered cars. You don't need horsepower to have fun. Horsepower will smoke the tires and might get you a higher top speed if you are so inclined, but handling will win every time. You'll learn how to hit the corners running and floor it going around instead of worrying about the tail end passing you in mid turn. Part of that is the FWD, but most of it is the design of the suspension.

Good luck and welcome.

Thanks guys I have number 285 I believe. I'll get a pic when it comes back. I tried attaching a pic here but since I'm using my phone I don't know if it'll work.

as for the power steering the seller said it already went and he replaced it wih an aftermarket unit so no hope on a recall warranty there.

Congrats again. Reposted it for you. Looks clean for a 2002.

Looks like you need some trim. Here are some part number for the wheel arch trim.

Ya me too. My tuck is almost same colour. Ford calls it blue flame. Not sure about mini. I've gotten a lot of compliments so far even with its minor issues. Tried out the heated seats the other night on way home from work. Wow are those toasty!

Reset the ECU tonight after work and call it placebo but I swear it's a little more quick on acceleration and I know it stumbled a bit before Cuz I was concerned about it. Now the stumble is gone as far as I can tell. And really that's all that matters right? I'm loving the handling compared to my tired mustang. It would be awesome if these Launch editions hold their value, I'm willing to do the work to improve it! Anyone have a canadian source for those badges that go on the grille? I love those.
