Clutch shot?

What are the signs of my clutch on its way out?
How much does it cost?
2010 Mini Cooper hardtop
57,000 miles
Thanks!

My understanding is that you will experience slippage at most engine speeds, probably most noticeable at mid range in higher gears, maybe even on a good pull from a standing start.

Expense? From what I can tell, $2-2500. and if it isn't done right, it might fail again in 10-20K. This site doesn't seem to have the horror stories you can find on some others, but I'm only going by my own reading. On the Edmunds site you could almost assume that Mini's eat clutches for dinner and their owners shell out a few grand every 20,000 miles. They only seem to get the whiners on that site. Here I've seen claims of 100K and still going strong. Of course YMMV~

Having come from a Miata and the miata.net site, I wish that the mods here would set up some sort of section that addresses specific issues like clutches and apparently the fan speed control issues and whatever else is relatively common. Then it could be as reference point to start from instead of always posting seemingly similar questions every other day. I know that I have questions that I can't find answers to but I also believe are common enough to be rolled into a "Common Questions about Mini's" section.

Ok. Then it's not the clutch. Phew! There's a "fluttering" sound coming from the middle of the car every time I shift, and I don't feel any slippage.
Wonder what it Could be?
Thanks again!

Since your on this subject mine seems to do a "clunk" goin into 2nd gear (almost sounds like something is loose)....hmmm...cant be the operator - I hope cuz I've been drivin stick shift for 30 yrs. What a mechanic told me is the clank is worse than the clunk - costs more..that last part was a ha ha.

Wasn't clutch; was an oil leak! three quarts had to be put in; mechanic said seal around bolt broke; sounds like b$&!?@t to me!! Irony is that I went to him to save money, but he charged me just as much as a mini dealer!! Live and learn. But he did a good brake job for me: $400 for all four brakes.
Hope that was a good price.

Was it the drain plug or some other bolt?, 400.00 for all 4 sounds good but what did he do exactly? If it was just pads or pads and rotors... If it was just the pads getting the parts yourself would've cost you around 200.00 or less for the parts. I'm not familiar with 2nd Gen prices but I bought the original pads from Way with sensor for about 80.00 just for the front from WMW.

Drain plug. Pads and rotors. Unfortunately, it was already in the shop, and I didn't want to do the leg work. My friends said same thing. Hopefully, I will be in a countryman next October.

Does mini run these incentives every October?

Then 400.00 is not bad, all comes down to the quality of the new parts but if you are getting a new car I don't think that it matters much, congrats
