Hello all, i recently purchased a '10 Mini Cooper S for my wife to daily drive. So far we love it. I've been doing a little research on the maintainance and whatnot since European cars are greek to me. One thing i plan to do very shortly is change the trans fluid which looks like it is going to be a PIA. Seems odd to me that you drain a little, put a little in, drive it, repeat in hopes to cycle out "most" of the old fluid. What's the best alternative for the trans fluid? The mini dealer has the fluid for $25/quart. Ive searched around but couldnt find a solid answer on what the other options are. Anyways, nice site and i hope to learn a few things through it. Any common issues with these cars that i need to look at before it becomes an issue?

Thanks, Thomas

An alternative fluid other than using the Mini brand.

Thomas my recommendation would be Redline MTL Synthetic Manual Transmission Fluid. I've employed Redline products (racetrack applications in other vehicles) and their products have always worked extremely well. Have yet to change fluid in my JCW but when the time comes Redline will be used.

Redline's transmission fluid (70W80 API GL-4 gear oil) is compatible with the Texaco MTF94 fluid in stock transmissions.

I'm sure that others will have their opinions on this and though Redline transmission fluid is slightly more expensive than other commercially available products it is less expensive than the MINI brand.

Good Luck to you and keep us informed!

Motor On!
