Introduction and question

Greeting everyone. I am a new Mini owner from Amarillo, TX. I went to a dealership this past weekend to buy a good used car for work. I actually went to look at a Honda Civic but the salesman showed me a 2008 Mini Cooper S. I thought , what the heck, I'll just test it to be nice... Wow, what a test drive. These cars handle incredible!

I am a vintage VW guy. I own a 65 split window pickup and a couple of buses. I always liked the look of the Mini but never saw myself as an owner.

This mini has 80K on the odometer with a clean CarFax and all the documented service records. Are there any potential things I should look for with this mileage?

There are three buttons on my rear view mirror that I can not figure out what they do. I thought someone here might be able to point me in the right direction.

Thanks for the great forum and I will see you around!

Welcome to NAM! You've come to the right place for info on all things MINI. I'm a first-gen owner, so I can't offer many specifics on what to look for in the MINI you're considering. You might browse the Second Gen section for threads on common issues such as carbon build up, etc.

As for the buttons on your mirror, that's most likely part of the Convenience package. The buttons you mention can be programmed to open your garage door and used instead of a separate remote.

The last piece of advice I can offer is to get a pre-purchase inspection (PPI) done by a MINI dealer or experienced independent mechanic. Especially if this car is at a non-MINI lot the PPI, while costing $100-$175 upfront, it may save you some shock & surprise at bigger repairs required after you buy.

Good luck!
