Hey everyone. Just bought a 2012 Cooper S Hatchback, first Cooper, first import ever actually. Every other car I've ever owned has been American and a V8. Not super familiar with the car or the engine but I'm a quick learner. So far I LOVE the car, the acceleration is much better than I thought it would be and it is really fun to drive, handling is great. I look forward to my time here. This board seems like a good site!
Would help if I said where I was from I guess. I'm from central NJ, right by Trenton.

Martin, it may be your first import but now days, even your "American" cars are built somewhere else or from imported parts or both. The Ford Fusion is built in Mexico and 85% of the parts are imported from Asia. My Fiat isn't Italian at all, it's made in Mexico. If you still have the certificate of origin, you may find the transmission is from Japan.
It's a global economy, get used to it.
And when it comes to power and performance, your new MCS will give you everything your old V8 gave you and more! Enjoy the ride.
P.S. -- I'm a Jersey kid, born in Mt. Holly (Exit 5).

Thanks! I noticed the power, much more than I was expecting. I didn't mean anything by the "import" remark other than I know they tend to be a whole different type of car and engine to work on if (when) I decide to get into it. Wonder how long it'll take me to scratch that itch...
