Should I pick up my car or hav it delivered?

My MA emailed today that my new baby will get to the dealership sometime this weekend!

He offered to have the car delivered to me since I live an hour 20 mins from the dealership. no extra charge sounds pretty good but what if I find some imperfections (paint issues for example)? I will certainly discuss it when he calls on Monday.

How often do people find problems when picking up their car? what would you do?

I like to look a car over before I sign on the dotted line and fork over the money. And you want to go over the paperwork carefully, watching for hidden charges that tend to creep in. Put these two together and you have a situation where if you have the car delivered, you either have to sign the paperwork and own a car you've never seen or have contracts shoved at you by the delivery guy on a take it or leave it basis.

If the salesperson is someone you know and trust and you are sure has your best interests at heart, then I might do it.

Markjenn makes some good points. Assuming most of us are pretty particular about our cars, I would want to look carefully before I signed for it.

My dealer was happy to put my car on a lift so I could see the underside. And take it for a test drive too. Anything that's out of order will be fixed a lot sooner if it's still their car.

This not to suggest that you will find problems, but it should give peace of mind.

Pick it up!! Make sure they remembered to take the shipping blocks out of the springs and of course look it over thoroughly for any problems, or anything they got wrong, before you sign. All that aside, don't you want to DRIVE IT HOME??

Pick it up or you could be responsibile for any flaws you might find. They can say it happened after delivery.

Yes, like others have said, pick it up at the dealers so you can check out if there are any flaws that need to be addressed by the dealer.

You'll need someone to drive you to the dealer, so have them scan over the car with you. Be sure and TAKE YOUR TIME for this! The extra set of eyes make a big difference since yours are probably a little "blurry" at this stage!

The above is probably good advice for a Mini Cooper. Look the car over good, test drive it, and stay while they correct any problems.

We ordered a new Honda Pilot from a dealership about the same distance away as yours off the internet. They offered their usual to-your-driveway free delivery, and we took it. We looked the car over after it arrived (it was perfect), and the delivery guy showed us the basics of the car, just as they do at the dealership. Just as we completed the paperwork on the dining room table his ride back showed up. Apparently they have this down pat.
