She just likes me.
1. Backing off the gas in any gear and getting the pops as the engine revs go down through 2,400. The pops are hard to hear in any gear above 3rd, because of road noise.
2. Easy-on-the gas, slow upshifts between 1-2 and 2-3.
From what I've read, the pops are caused by a slight increase in air-fuel mixture, from 14.7:1 to about 15.1:1. I don't know what makes the ECU think when and where pops are socially appropriate.

I'm pushing 1,100 miles, and the only consistent reference points I've found are:

Gracias for the info, Senor !
I just got the email from my MA that my MINI is officially out of production and on the way. Would be more exciting if I didn't already know almost exactly where she is on the Fidelio in the Atlantic. Then one week from landing and should be at the dealer. Puts me at pick up labor day weekend. That would be fun. Fingers crossed it stays the course.
This is my first automatic car since my 1969 Dodge Coronet. Happy to say I did NOT break that one in. It's going to be weird for me moving the RPM's around and making sure I get a good range and some good RPM drops. One ruined knee later though and I had to go automatic. I'd be more bummed but hey it got us ordering a MINI sooner then I would have!

IT'S HERE, IT'S HERE! . . . we're picking it up on Saturday

Dead-on 6 weeks from the day we ordered . . . not bad!!!
. . . I feel really bad for those who must wait longer because the wait was excruciating

I wonder what the cutoff is for east coast vs west coast delivery? I know Colorado is west coast. That is probably as far as it goes. I think Kansas is east coast isn't it?
Ha ha . . . yeah I wish
. . . but I'm dead busy tomorrow and I need some time to pamper the old car to trade it in in the best shape as humanly possible and it needs a bit of work :p but it'll be worth it... All I'm really looking for is that it's going to be a nice sunny weekend perfect for a first short trip
btw, do you guys know if it's alright to drive it for some distance as we get it broken-in?

Sure. Just vary your RPMs and maybe detour on some side roads occasionally. You just Don't want to drone on at 2,800rpm for 500 miles.
TG.... you could do what I did. Even though my ride home from the dealership was only 70 miles, when I was on the interstate, about every 10 miles I alternated between 5th and 6th gear. Same speed. That way, the RPMs varied.
Thanks CR. It's an auto but . . . I get to try the paddle "shifters"
I know I read it somewhere but since we're on the subject what the brake-in recommended procedure? How many miles? iirc not to go over 5000 rpms or something like that...

I've said it before, it's not MY daily driving car. It's my wife's . . . it's kind of a big belayed birthday car
. . . but she's going to have to try hard to keep me away from it on the weekends
ha ha ha haaaaathx for the additional info!
Nice... I bought a MINI for my SO back in 2006 and she still has it and says she will never part with it. it has the old CVT in it so she'll be lucky never to part with it.
Hope your wife loves her MINI as much !
No problem. And let me add... staying under 100 mph sounds funny but it's not so easy in a JCW.
