I like my cars the same way I like my ... oops, never mind.

I guess I'm going to have to get out of here soon, because I have my new MINI. It's just that so many people helped me here the last few months, I feel guilty about you guys falling out of the nest all on your own!

 

Obviously one of the things that separates Mini from other makes is how much owners can and do customize it. I think the only vehicle in the world more customized are Harley-Davidson motorcycles. (I know, we have a Road King Classic and Street Glide, neither of which are stock! )

That said, I am pretty sure Mini is from the Latin ministripumus, which means, it must have stripes!

And for those following the Tiger, it has entered the Caribbean Sea!

Appears to be within 400mi of northeast of the Dominican Republic. (zoom out about 6 levels) Should be at the Panama Canal by July 1 as scheduled.

 

Not that difficult. The CM A-4 is my prettier half's daily driver. The PW Justa is the one I bought for her in 2006, she uses it to give her CM some breaks and keep the mileage down on it, gets driven once or twice a week. The 05 Justa I bought to teach my son to drive a stick and I will use it on days the weather is bad so my JCW doesn't have to drive in it and to help keep the mileage down on the JCW... will drive it once or twice a week too.

I was going to let my son take the 05 Justa with him when he goes off to the Air Force next year but appears he may not do that. I won't argue with him !

If she is being reported in the area of the Caribbean Sea, she must be south of the major Antilles Islands, (Cuba, Dominican Republic, Puerto Rico). Anything north of these islands is still considered as the Atlantic Ocean. I bet she just shot the Mona Passage between the Dominican Republic and Puerto Rico to enter Caribbean waters early this morning. AIS Live is pretty spotty there.

 

Thanks WolfsBane. Here is where I got the confirmation it is in the Caribbean. The map data must be wrong.

If she is that close though, not sure why 3 days to the Canal. Maybe they slow down and queue up to go through. The Tiger has precious cargo aboard though so she should be waved through.

 

You are probably right about the map data. AIS coverage is pretty slim in the Caribbean, unless you are close to one of the major ports. There really is a LOT of maritime traffic in those waters. Three days to Manzanillo is about right at 15 knots or so. She may have to anchor off to wait for her scheduled transit through the locks for a few hours if she arrives too early. But thats pretty much standard, as transit through is on a specified schedule.

Precious cargo is right!... My last vehicle was purchased in 1997. I'm looking forward to some road trips!

 

Wow. I've waited almost as long as you! I purchased my 98 Audi A4 in April of 1998, so it has been a long time.

 

The Michigan Highway is about to dock in Southampton. Anybody else on the manifest to keep my MINI company ?? Don't make him go on there with a bunch of strangers.

 

ITS HERE!!!!! My wife and I were driving around when i had this gut feeling to go to the dealership to see where my car was at. Plus i wanted to check out the new location since my dealer moved. We Get there and what do i see lined up in the parking lot... My MA was just getting done putting donot wash stickers all over the car. He. Said i can pick it up tmrw afterthe pdi process is done. He also said something about a petting zoo too. So tmrw is definitely going to be an awesome day. Pics coming soon

Haha yeah that was my reaction too. Im defintely bringing a camera tomorrow so there should be some interesting pictures. They also have a bunch of classic minis in the showrom too. As for my gut.... Its saying good thing comes to those who wait. That and "feed me a cheeseburger and some fries"

 

No cheeseburgers here but you can have some of our Chinese carry out. Ordered plenty!

YAYYYYYYY !! Company on the Michigan Highway !! We can watch it come across the North Atlantic together. Our MINIs should be loading on that ship about now. Not sure what time it shoves off tomorrow but I'll be watching.
