So dealer told me I get production # in weeks

So I read here that they should be able to give me a production number or something before I left the dealer.

I sent her a message, and she told me that they would not have the production number for a few weeks... That runs counter to everything I read.

This is Mini of Sterling here in N VA.

I'm new to the process as well but I have read that some models (i.e. JCW) won't start production until November. I ordered mine MCS on 7/18, got the production number the same day, however my production didn't begin until this week.

Hey Bubble&Squeak (btw, great screen name!):

The day that I ordered my car, I walked out of the dealership with an itemized list of every option that I chose, and that sheet had the Production Number listed at the top. Did they give you the sheet with the breakdown of your order? If not, you can PM me your email address and I can send you a .pdf of my order sheet so you can compare.

Minimartin may be right, if you ordered a JCW or maybe a coupe, it's possible that it just hasn't been assigned a number yet.

They did give me a sheet. They missed something, and wrote on the printout the missing automatic tranny (I am disabled so manual transmission is out of the question).

They game me that printout with the hands written part. And I left. Will send you a PM to see what I am missing.

What type of car did you order? 2012? Cooper? Cooper S? Any special features?

I ordered my ALL4 in early June and didn't get a production number until early July but that was because 2012 ALL4 production hadn't started yet and they didn't have the numbers.

Maybe the dealership had no more allocations available for the month? I know some dealerships just replace a dealership order they made with your order if possible or they had slots already open and give you a production #.

I've read both ways - some people get a number right away, others several days or weeks later. I'm sure your MA will figure it out... I have to wait a long time since my JCW doesn't start production until November.

The system thought the frequent posting was a spammer, so it was tagged. I approved it.

Regarding the production number, when I ordered mine a few years ago in early July, I had to wait for at least two weeks before I got a production number. As mentioned, perhaps the dealer either exhausted or did not yet have its allocation of slots. I'm guessing that--or something similar, rather than a mistake--is the explanation.

When I ordered my Coupe I got the production number 2 days later. I would have had it the next day but the dealers computer was down. When I was putting the deal together I was told by my MA that cars with automatics are on hold because of a lack of transmissions. Apparently the Japan disaster is still affecting availability of the transmissions.

This could be your problem. I wonder if others are having this problem?

One would think that you would still get a production number though. Hummm.

I hope you get it soon.

Pat
