"Those Waiting for a 2012" Support Group
Interesting, I would of thought it would of come from the east coast for you. I think I saw someone mention it taking 3 days to get through port. But I wouldn't of thought it would take 2 weeks to get to Colorado.
Thank you for the heads up
I am also on the torrens... I am so excited...
I am new to the whole waiting process.. Do you guys think my car will be available for pickup this weekend...
I am in Los Angeles
I know. But I checked and my car is on the Torrens and my dealer thought it would be loaded by December 9th or so on a car carrier. That being said one of my good friends got her Cooper two weeks late and ordered it from the same gal, so I'm not super optimistic, although I'd like to be. Patience is wearing then.....grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr.....
If I understand the process, and please someone chime in if I'm wrong, once the car reaches port, it's unloaded and goes through customs which takes about a week, maybe? Then it's loaded onto a car carrier and goes to the dealership.
I would like to know the process too
Picked mine up last night. Was a really awkward drive home going from the Jeep Wrangler Unlimited back to a MINI. But the ride in to work this morning was pretty awesome. The stuff that I appreciate the most thus far:
1. MINI Connected (the display, interface and options...especially Pandora)
2. Comfort Access (love not messing with the key)
3. Auto dimming rear view (didn't care about it when I built the car and it only came because I wanted the garage door opener but I love it already). :-)

Ive heard, but dont know for sure, that often it passes customs before the boat even docks. Then it takes 2 days or so to move through the VDC (more if there is damage or you're having a lot of port-installed accessories done) before climbing on a truck for one final trip. (my poor car has been on that truck for three days now to come four hours away!!)

I am also on the Torrens and checked in with my MA last night because I thought I may have her by Wednesday since apparently the VDC is not working the weekend so they will not be processing the cars until Monday. But he told me it will be 5 to 9 days before I receive her which I don't understand. Most I here it is out of the Port Hueneme usually in 2-3 days so unless she is damaged I am totally confused. We are only about an hour and a half from port
Yes, someone will correct me if I am wrong, but if you use the configurator at Mini Usa, anything thats on that last "step" (driving lights, sport stripes, mudflaps, etc.) is done at the VDC.
That's cool and makes sense to me. I ordered driving lights with my Coupe and my MA made it sound as if they'd be mounted at the dealer. He made sure to tell me the cost would be extra for the labor.

My MA made me think the same thing, but due to cost, I bought the OEM driving lights from a non-dealer for $250 cheaper (with bracket and grill install kit) and installing them myself. I'm also doing the stripes from a local shop since it's $100 for the vinyl and $220 for the dealership install! No thanks! It'll be $50 for the vinyl and about $150 for a local place to install.
Since the Torrens is about 8-9hrs from port and I've been obsessively watching it's every move. So I've decided to do some research on my new favorite boat.

Fun Facts about the Torrens:
Made by Mitsubishi in '04
Holds 6,350 cars over 12 decks.
It's engine is the biggest thing I have ever seen. Makes around 19,000hp at 105rpm on diesel. And scoots along around 20mph.
Check this thing out

OK back to cars.

It must be something about us. I too am obsessively tracking the Mignon that left on the 24th and should be into the Canal Zone on the 6th now. Last plot I have is a few hours old and puts it about 50 W 39 N.
haha! I dont feel like such a dork now. I can confess to researching the boat I was on (Bosporus Highway) including some entertaining videos on youtube of her crew singing and dancing (was glad to know my car had entertainment on the cruise over)
