Hey! 1st post!
Hey! 1st post!
Just thought I would give a shout out and say HI. I'm in the process of looking for a Mini to make my own soon. I've decided that I want to get rid of my motorcycle, and get something that still gets great MPG....and is still fun to drive....and I think a mini is what I need.
I'm hoping to get as much info from you guys as possible before I get one...
Thanks in advance!

A MINI will get the same MPG as my bike (35mpg), and still be a blast to drive.....right?? I'm going to miss the raw acceleration of the bike, but it's worth the trade off in exchange for having storage, a roof over my head when it rains, and being able to drive it in the snow
Ahh, nice bike! I know what you mean though, it's not very functional. Personally I had too many close calls (and a few spills.) and it stopped being as fun. You can probably get 30s in a MINI, personally I'm doing mostly city driving or twisty road redlining, so I usually get ~26mpg, but by all accounts it's a lot better on the highway.

Are you thinking about the Cooper or Cooper S? You may miss acceleration with the Cooper, but there's a lot you can do to the Cooper S to close that gap. =]

I believe Cooper S can do 32mpg @ 80+mph. I'm averaging 28mpg commuting through light to heavy highway traffic. It was closer to 24mpg when I was commuting city streets. If I kept RPMs as low as possible and drove like my mother, I could easily get over 30mpg on the streets.

If I end up getting one, it will definitely be an S. I want something that I can tinker with....bump up the power a bit, but still be a reliable DD. I've heard that the S's actually get better mpg than the standard models. Is there any truth to that?
I highly doubt that. Unless you own a Cooper and TRY to drive it like an S.
I am probably getting worse mileage than a lot of the local S drivers, the way they putter around from the office to the grocery store
Every time I wave at an S, I get a returned quizzical glance from 40-something lady.
