Howdy - New to the forums here and found it through Google. Placed my order for a 2011 Cooper S (Spice Orange) and am waiting for it's arrival. So far, looks like a lot of good information - hope to be able to post pics as soon as I take posession from the dealer upon arrival!

 

I did have a quick question - I purchased the MINI Connect and Nav - anyone have an iPhone or other phone they've used? Are they happy with it?

Also, I chose not to upgrade the stereo - just the base that comes with it, any feedback for owners of the base stereo? Are you happy with it?

I'm coming from an Acura RDX w/ Tech/Nav so I'm not sure if I made the right choice by holding out on the stereo...

 

Welcome and congrats on the SO, great color!
The base sound system is decent, just depends on how much you listen to music vs talk or whatever. Generally people who order the base system don't listen to much music, or they plan to put in another system.
I just ordered my 2nd MCS and I also ordered the Nav, don't have it yet so can't offer any insight.

Can't comment on Connected/Nav or base sound, as I have the upgraded sound system but not connected or Nav.

I can comment on the MCS and color though, which both rock ...

 

Thanks - now I'm a little nervous. I do listen to tons of music - I don't know why I didn't upgrade the stereo option considering everything else I did.

Do you know of anyone that's upgraded their stereo aftermarket? Any feedback?

 

I'd contact your MA and see if you can still change it. I think the upgraded HK system is a MUST if you care at all about how your music sounds. If I could only get 1 option on my MINI, that'd be it - no question.

As for Connected, as far as I know the companion phone app is only available for iPhone.

 

Unfortunately it was too late to change the item since it's in production.

Also - mine appears to come with the black stripes in the front - the dealer has offered to remove them at no charge. Does anyone have a Spice Orange with stripes and have a pic? Did you prefer with or without stripes?

Can someone explain to me how the Sport Button Feature works, and tell me what I should expect from it? My Mini Clubman (2010) is not an S and is Automatic.

Mine does have the black stripes as I bought mine off the lot. I'm seriously considering getting the stripes, or some stripes added, just haven't decided which ones I want.

if yours is coming with them, I'd probably leave them on for a bit anyway and see if you like them or not before them remove them.

Also check out the SO owners club thread posted above, there are pics w/ the stripes over there.

 

im also hoping the nav and connect work well with the iphone. and i hope they come out with more programs for it soon. cause i know ill be on it all the time. i hope to have a bunch of reviews when i finally get my baby

 

Unless I'm mistaken I think MINI Connect ONLY works w/ the iPhone. I don't think Nav interracts w/ the phone at all, but I could be wrong, as I don't have these options and only investigated them a little.

I'm a proud Spice Orange owner with the upgraded sound and Nav+ Connect. I don't have an IPhone, but am holding out hope that Mini comes out with Android support. I did hook up my son's iTouch and can definitely see the value! In the meantime, the benefit that I am getting from the Mini Connect package us that it includes a nice Bluetooth package that supports audio streaming and contact synchronization from your phone book. I don't have the audio streaming working from my phone, but I think others have had some success.

My biggest complaint about the Nav on the Mini is the lack of touch screen. A huge bonus however is that the integrated traffic info. is great. I don't know how the whole system works, but it seems to be pretty accurate with regards to where the traffic is congested, and even shows accident locations.

As far as stripes, you can see them in my signature. You can also head over to the Spice Orange owners thread and click on some attachments that I posted to see larger versions. I went with Viper Stripes, which were added by a company called a Aesthetic Creations. Lucky for me that they are located here in Phoenix, so I had them do the installation. You can choose from all sorts of stripes from his website and have then shipped to you. You can either install them yourself, or find a place local to you that can install them.
