Newbie here...thinking to get 2011 MCS
Always been wanting to buy a Mini, and it looks like it will happen soon, as soon as I sell my current car.
Got a question. On the miniusa website it says MCS gets 30-32MPG average. How accurate is that? (Fincee drives 2011 Accord cupe 4 cylinder Auto, on Honda website it says it gets average 27MPG and 34 HWY...yeh right...it gets average 17MPG and 24 HWY). So please help me out. oh and I will be getting it in manual transmission.

Good luck with the sale of your car and hope you find your Mini quickly!
The MPGs vary greatly depending on what type of driving you'll be doing. If you gun it much, you won't see the higher mileage figures. After the first few thousand miles the mileage improves, but the city mileage can be pretty low and drag your average down. Its still head and shoulders above the mileage I used to get in a Honda Civic though.

On my 2011 MCS I got 30.75 MPG on my last tank commuting to work in pretty light traffic. I used to get 27 mpg in my 07 Civic on same route. Which is amazing beecause my driving style has changed since moving to the MCS from the Civic. For some reason I tend to drive a bit faster in the MCS than in the Civic
MPG with manual
My Mini S is the Mellow Yellow, 2009, w/6 manual gears.
If you're fully comfortable driving a stick-shift I would say that's the way to go.
In my mind there's no question that a stick is not only more fun to drive, but it gives you better control of the car.
Down shifting will save on your breaks over a period of time.
Using the gears to slow you down on snow or ice is safer than breaking, cornering curves on a steep incline and
not having to break at every sharp turn you enter.
As for mileage, with a manual, depending how you drive, if you have a heavy foot and like to accelerate quickly
you won't get as good mileage as you possible could get.
I drive slightly aggressive, I still remain courteous to other drives and keep safety first,
my MPG varies around 27-28/30-32 at best.
I got a speeding ticket about 6 months ago, NC State Trooper, nice guy, said he loved my Mini S and if I was
going just a bit slower he wouldn't have stopped me.
I was doing 80 in a 55 MPH zone, the car takes off before you realize it especially on the open road,
you'll find yourself going faster than you think!
I'm 58 years old and this was my first violation. I had to hire a lawyer and take an 8 hour online driving safety course,
which actually was very beneficial. Although I've been driving for many years, and feel that I'm a very good driver,
there was a lot to learn and think about.
I feel that I'm a better driver for having taking the course.
Because it was my first offense and that I took the 8 hour online course the lawyer was able to remove violation,
like it never happened.
I drive slower now.
Good luck with the purchase of your MINI.
PS. If you're looking for great gas mileage, I also own a 2009 Pirus, which is my big car.
The Pirus I gets 40/50 MPG. Totally different from the Mini S but it's also a great car,
but it makes me appreciate the Mini's stick that much more.

I've been averaging about 32 MPG for my commutes into the office in moderate to heavy traffic. I'm still in the break in period, and I hear it should improve some after that. So I've been very happy with the MPG. I have been trying to go easy on the acceleration at least while trying to determine my best case MPG. I'm sure it will go down some once i start driving it the way I really want to
I've had my 2011 MCS for 1 1/2 months now and have not regretted the decision one bit. The car is a blast to drive and for me does it all. I can get good gas mileage when I want it and watch how I drive for daily commutes, while at the same time has all the power and joy one wants when I want to just let it loose and have fun. Which is seems I want to do much more now that I've my MCS.
