Proud new owner of a 2002 MCS
I'm very new to the MINI sub-culture but very excited to be an owner of a "gently used" MCS. I got a deal I could not refuse after my last daily driver died. Since I live in Maryland and commute to the northern area of Washington DC I sure hope it handles well in the snow and ice. Otherwise I will end up driving my Toyota Sequoia, which is a gas hog.
Welcome to the addiction! Be sure to check out the DC Metro MINI club as well as Central Maryland MINIs. Both are great clubs that host some really nice drives around the area.
Handling in the snow and ice depends on tires as much as anything. I thought mine handled fine while I was up there, but some people won't take them out in that kind of weather.

Thank you everyone for the warm welcome. Once I get settled into my new place I will upload some photos of my yet to be named Mini. Looking under the hood everything is stock. So, that means I have a lot of work ahead of me when it comes to MODS. Starting with the Cold Air Intake and a reduced pulley and timing belt system.
Sweet! Welcome to the madhouse. Don't forget to get fitted for a straightjacket
As was mentioned earlier, get some higher profile winter tires and you shouldn't have too many issues with snow. I'm up here in eastern Canada and we get tons of it. I drive Opus all year long. Sure, it can't plow through the deep stuff like your Toyota behemoth, but it zips around pretty good.
