built in GPS system for 2006 JCW

Hi guys & gals,
I've got to replace the computer box which is mounted under the passenger seat in the 2006 JCW---probably mounted in the same location for other years/models. Mine got wet--left rooftop open--heavy rain--don't ask more
Don't know whether there is any significant difference between the electronic box for GPS in my model and that used in other years. For example, will the box for a 2004 or 2008 work?
The dealer price for replacing the box is $2K---forget that! Anyone have any suggestions on where to look for one and how to insure it will work in my Mini before I buy it?
Related question: How often do any of you update your maps? Is that a difficult/costly process?

I had the same thing happen in my 04 Honda Pilot - $3400 part (for what was originally a $2000 option). Found one from a wrecked car on e-bay for $250 - took an hour to install myself (make sure the seller has a return policy). Not sure how the MINI one installs but worse case pay the dealer to do it. GOOD LUCK!
