Hunting for my dream Mini

I am looking to buy a 2002-2004 Mini Cooper. It MUST be automatic, Blue exterior, White roof/mirrors, Black cloth interior, navigation system, and NO rear spoiler.

My advice is to look for a 2005 or 2006 MINI Cooper S with an automatic if you must have one. The 2002-2004 only come on the Cooper & it is a CVT transmission that is prone to fail & terribly costly to replace. Not all CVTs go bad, but a lot do.

Thanks. I'll keep that in mind. I've been researching MINI Cooper for 8 years and would really like to purchase one within the next four years.

For starters you might place a "Want To Buy" request on this site. You could prompt someone with your vehicle requirements to start thinking about an "upgrade". This usually results in a good deal for both parties.

In addition... go to your nearest mini dealer and give them your specifications. I think they can check every dealer and see if anyone has your "dream car" on their lot.

Hey... if you've got the money and PATIENCE (which you no doubt have), you'll find it!

Just bought an '02.... didn't know about the transmission problems.... We did however purchase a 5 year 50,000 mile warranty for just that purpose. Maybe we'll get "lucky" and it will go bad while under warranty.

Anyways, mine is (I think) Indi Blue but with black top and mirrors. We we're surprised at the condition. The engine looks brand new!

Best of luck on your hunt for your dream MINI!

Not all MINI CVT transmissions die an early death, but some do. With that warranty in your pocket I would not worry about it & enjoy your new MINI.

I gave my checklist to a Mini dealer in Chicago earlier this summer and frequently check Ebay motors. I joined 3 other mini forums besides this one in hope that I would get more insight into the Mini world and more knowledge about the Cooper and Cooper S. I have owned an 02 Kia Rio since March 08 and plan on driving it into the ground before replacing it...that is of course unless my Mini comes along before that. I have my finances fixed so I can afford my dream car once it comes my way and patience to wait out however long it takes to find exactly what I'm looking for. Thanks for all the input and advice! I greatly appreciate it!

*Would it be smart to look for an 02-06?
*Is it smarter to look into buying a Cooper S instead of a Cooper since I plan on adding a body kit and other kits so I can race it and use it for my daily car?
*For racing purpose is manual trans preferred?

Yes IMHO you should get an S, 05 or 06. If you plan to track your car get a 6 speed.
