Hi from Hoboken

Hi all,

I'm not a Mini owner just yet but she's on the way. I just finished placing my order for a Cooper S but am still undecided on color (debating between dark silver with black top and bonnet stripes or laser blue with the black top and bonnet stripes). Anyway, just wanted to drop a line an say hi. Let me know if you have any input on the color choice since I still have some time to decide.

Welcome to the forum, colors are a personal decision, you have to make the call, DS/B or LB/B, I lean toward the blue.

I went with the DS/B but color is such a personal choice. I too was torn between two choices (DS/B and all black). I kept looking at pictures on the board here and finally made my choice. In retrospect I think I would have been happy with either.

Hoboken is a nice city. My grandson goes to Stevens so we are up there from time to time.

Thanks for the input. I'm torn as well and have been staring at pictures online and feel like I'm no closer to a decision. But all in all, this is a great problem to have so I'm trying to think of what I'd like in the long run.

Hoboken is nice. A little over-crowded, but my fiancee and I like it a lot.

Laser Blue gets our vote here in Kaiserslautern Germany. We are cheerin you on and welcome to NAM. Hubby is ordering LB/B and was torn with CR/B so we understand your pain, but he at this moment is going with the LB/B unless they come out with a new blue in 2011 then it is back to the drawing board. The new orange is cool too. Anyway good luck......

I agree that color is a personal choice, for sure. Of those two choices, I'd go with DS.

Congrats on your order and...

Thanks for the input and thoughts everyone. So far the Dark Silver is winning out. I really need to see another laser blue/black top in person. I wish the mini dealers around here weren't so far away. Anyway, right now my fiancee really likes the dark silver, unless I can convince her otherwise, that one will win out.

+1 for Laser Blue. Love that color....every time I see one on the road I like it more & more. Either way - you can't go wrong....let us know what you decide.

it seems that with either color I can't go wrong. This really is a good dilemna to have.

Now my only issue is whether or not to keep the convenience package or swap it out and just get the comfort bluetooth/ipod and get the alarm system instead. Any thoughts? is the alarm worth it?

thoughts on the alarm. well "they" say you can't steel a MINI because of the key and there is no way to hot wire it and all that jazz. So in order for the alarm to go off the window would already have to get broken. So just don't leave anything of value in the MINI and skip the alarm. and get insurance that has free window repair. Yeah! I didn't get the alarm but I have seen MINI's with them so it is just your call.

I picked up my MINI in April. You are going to love it! Mine is: brown with toffee stripes, white roof and white wheels. So, naturally, this is my favorite color! The style/color is reminiscent of classic Mini's from the 50's.

When the dealer told me about it, I thought it'll be ugly. It was love a first sight!

showing my age here - got the alarm (safety / security true or perceived) and the comfort access (i liked the idea of not having to take the key out of my pocket).

i never talk on my cell phone while driving so i skipped the blue tooth. NJ has a law requiring hands free but they don't enforce it (i wish they would!)

as you know by now, almost everything on the MINI is an option and expensive so i opted out of the creature comforts packages such as automatic air (have not missed it even a little, plus i think the flat readout doesn't look as nice as the ***), leather / heated seats (again, i can live without).

I did get two option which i like, at another board member's suggestion, the chrome line interior and coco mats (http://www.cocomats.com) (remember them as a kid during the 60's) in gray and black that match my exterior / interior.

So I found out that my Mini is currently loaded on the WW and awaiting to leave prot sometime today. Due to arrive in Halifax on 7/27 and Jersey City on the 29th. I'm going to be looking out the office window each morning to see if I can see the ship across the river. I drive by the VDC each morning so I'll keep you posted when I see a large group of Mini's in the lots!

Loaded on the WW? Unless they have a ship with a 2 'W' name, that is the shipping company, Wallenius Wilhelmsen Logistics. Assuming you have the dates right, your MINI is going to be on the Fedora.

Safe journey!

My appologies, you're absolutely right. Got a little excited there.

All-in-all, I'm just hoping its a safe and quick journey.

Well my mini has finally arrived at the dealership, now I just need find some time to pick it up this week. Unfortunately I work in the city get out late and I hate the idea of picking up the car in the dark when you can't really look it over (I've learned the hard way before) so I might just be stuck waiting until the weekend. Either way, I can't wait to get it out on the road!

Sounds like a perfect excuse for a vacation day from work!

Head to the dealership first thing in the morning and take the whole day to 'get acquainted'. It's the responsible thing to do!

Hi spotswood nj

I have concerns about the 2010 Mini sport turbo. How many miles can you get before replacing the turbo..?

With regular oil changes and routine maintenance, there's no reason to believe this engine wouldn't last you well over 100K miles. In the standard Cooper S, the boost pressure is not that high (11.6 psi or 0.8 bar). Moreover, the fact that the engine is direct-injected means that the fuel/air charge would be cooler and theoretically, this should also help reduce engine wear as a byproduct (less thermal expansion within the cylinder). Anyway, why would the turbo be the main concern over other major items like the clutch? I'd be more concerned about that given typical labor costs to replace these since its so difficult to get to.

Also, take a look back historically at turbo-diesel engines. Although a diesel engine doesn't operate quite the same, the turbo woks in a similar fashion. I'm sure you can find plenty VW's, Mercedes and even Volvos that are running over 10 years on an original turbo.

Long story short, don't let the idea of a turbo be the deterrent from getting the car you really want. Overall, Mini's hold their value better than almost any other car on the road so if the idea of the long-term turbo is an issue, just sell it in a few years when the warranty expires. The real problem will be the upfront costs with Mini's and trying not to go overboard (I couldn't help myself and got waaaay too much stuff) and trying not to burn through tires by taking turns at speeds that most cars couldn't dream of. Good luck and hope you have a Mini in your future.
