Stripe question

For those of you who chose bonnet stripes, were yours painted on or did you choose what I think is the decals for stripes?

Vinal

You can always remove vinal if you change your mind somewhere down the road.

I could be wrong, but aren't all the MINI-supplied stripes (bonnet or sport) vinyl?

I went with the (vinyl) sport stripes.

I didn't think they all were. In the beginning of the Mini "configurator", it offers to paint it. At the last step where it offers "exterior styling" there are stripes again that are slightly more money. I believe those are the vinyl stripes and the beginning ones are painted on.

You may be right. Surely someone with bonnet stripes can chime in here and confirm / deny how they're applied. If they are painted, that makes me glad I went with the sport stripes (the ones that are available at the end - are wider and not angled) vs the bonnet stripes... I like having the choice to change them out relatively easily down the road.

And for me, I don't see doing many mods. But I know if I wanted to sell it, that a lot of people do like doing mods and have painted stripes would affect a resale. Of course, there's also the part of me that really wants it purple and I wouldn't give half a **** if I couldn't sell it later as long as I had the purple car.

Vinyl is all you will probably see, painted stripe disappeared from racing machines 15 years ago or so.

If that's the case, why do they offer stripes in 2 different areas of building the cars and it's 2 different prices? I have to ask my salesperson today when I put the order in.

Where are you going to get them and who puts them on? A mini dealer or a body shop?

I'm ordering my car so I'm trying to figure out if I should do stripes or not and what kind.

Because one is done at the "factory" price and one is done at the "dealer" price, for which you will also be charged for install (factory you will not). They are both actually DONE at the dealer but I think it just shows up in the configurator because they have to have a way to bill it after the fact.

No one will paint your stripes unless you take it to a body shop and ask for it

If you like the straight-up white or black stripes, then they are pretty cheap to just order them on the car and not have to worry about the install. But if you want something custom, there are several great custom vinyl vendors out there that specialize in MINIs - Cooper Flags and Aesthetic Creations are two I have worked with and both were great.

Thanks for all the info. I really thought one was paint and one was vinyl. I'm going to hold off on the stripes and then get custom ones later on.
Thanks so much!

All are vinyl. The factory stripes on my '09 stop about 1/8" from the edge of the hood - all factory stripes that I have seen are this way. The ones added at the dealership (they have a local guy that comes by and adds them) actually wrap around the edges of the hood for a better fit in my opinion. They were included in my sports package price - so I had them applied when the car was built.

Good luck - you're going to love your MINI!!
