From DSMs to Mini

Hello all,

I just picked up a 2006 MCS this past week! I'm not new to modifying cars as I'm coming off of a 600+ hp DSM, but have a few questions about this little guy.

On my DSM I have a tuning program called DSMlink, which lets me control timing curves, fuel curves, compensation for larger injectors, launch control, CELs, ect as well as datalogging. I've been poking around for a few days and only thing I've come across that lets me tune the car myself is the bytetronic tuning software. What other options are there?

Also I had my DSM on e85 and want to do that conversion to my mini. In my DSM I was running 1600cc injectors but the largest I see from vendors for the mini are 500cc or so. Doesn't seem like those would really take me too far.

I see that a lot of people start off my throwing a 15% pulley on it and an intake and exhaust. Is the stock fuel system/ecu enough to compensate for that much more air flow?

Here are some pics, not much to see, just a stock MCS but I love it!

You were getting 600+ hp out of an E85 conversion? Is that some kind of record?

No I had everything under the world done to my DSM. 67mm turbo, twin disc clutch, stroker motor, ect. Just e85 let me run whatever amount of boost I wanted without worrying about any detenation

I also had a DSM ('98 GSX with a 2.3 stroker) and you'll quickly find that tuning a MINI is no where like tuning a DSM. You wont be able to do any "black box" or home depot mods and make power like on a DSM and there really isnt any DIY ecu tuning solutions available that are as easy as the DSM link was. The only real ecu tuning solution is to pay to have a custom tune done. As far as bigger injectors you might want to try Jan at RMW or Mynes Performance, they both can definately source or point you in the direction of larger than 550 injectors.

Welcome to NAM, don't think you will be able to generate 600 HP out of a MINI, but have fun with whatever you do.

No self tuning options in the MINI world unless you want to go stand alone, in which case you would want an ECU that could interface with the bus that controls all the gauges on the MINI, MOTEC or MEGAsquirt I think (talk about polar opposites).
